High clearance shows strong demand at inaugural Carnarvon Santa sale

Santa Gertrudis bulls topped at $20,000 on three occasions at the inaugural Carnarvon Santa Sale at Injune on August 28.

Joint vendors, Luke and Carly Baker, Annabranch stud, Wandoan and Scott and Wendy Ferguson, Glenn Oaks stud, Nobby oversaw a predominantely oats-fed and prepared set of classified and purebred bulls, which averaged $10,342 on the way to setting a 98 per cent clearance at auction and a gross of $424,000.

First at the $20,000 figure was Annabranch Western Star W102 (P). The 23-month-old by Yarrawonga Ironman P914 (PP) weighed 826 kilograms with P8 and rib fat measurements of 13 and 10 millimetres respectively, an eye muscle area of 130 square centimetres and intramuscular fat of 5.2pc.

Taking home the bull was the Joliffe family, Walhallow, Amby. The Joliffes took a pair for an average of $13,000.

Taking the other two at $20,000 each was Callan Daley, Arrabury Pastoral Company, Bedourie.

Both were members of the Glenn Oaks team. First of these was Glenn Oaks Valencia V100 (Waloma Caspian (AI) (P)). The 29-month-old entry weighed 986 kilograms with P8 and rib fat measurements of 13 and 10mm respectively, an EMA of 150sq cm and IMF of 6pc.

The final bull at the $20,000 figure was Glenn Oaks Velocity V756 (Yarrawonga Katmandu R236). He posted a liveweight of 942 kilograms with P8 and rib fat measurements of 12 and 8mm respectively, an EMA of 142sq cm, and IMF of 6.4pc.

Arrabury signed off on five bulls in total for an average of $17,400. Another buyer selecting five head was the Boyd family, Injune taking their selections at an average $7600.

Purchasing four head each were Hartley Grazing, Mitchell for an average of $9000 and Homeward Properties, Injune for a $7500 average.

The Clark family, Eurumbah Grazing Company, Roma selected the $16,000 23-month-old Annabranch Warratah W248 (PS) as their only selection while Owen Perrett and Company, Kabunga West, Wandoan took the $16,000 Glenn Oaks Weston W562 (P) (22-months).

Also at $16,000 was Annabranch Water Boy W78 (PP) a two-year-old Yarrawonga Ironman P914 (PP) son going to the Jackson family, Injune.

Another from the Annabranch stable to make $16,000 was the 24-month-old, Walleroo W98 (Glenn Oaks Tattersall T818 (P) going to the Johnston family, Injune.

Sam and Heather Crowther, Harrow Grazing, Harrow, Arcadia Valley invested $14,000 in another of the Yarrawonga Ironman sons from Annabranch while the Dunn family, Megine, Roma were also in the mix, taking two from each of the vendors for an average of $12,000.
