Interstate buyers drive Redbank Angus sale to new heights with increased numbers

Despite increasing the offering by 48 per cent, clearance was still strong at the Redbank Angus sale at Cowra, on Friday, August 28, while the sale hit its highest top price yet.

Now in its fourth year, the stud offered 55 bulls, with 54 sold at auction to a top price of $23,000 and an average $8574.

This was a jump from in 2025, when 36 of 37 bulls hit a $14,000 top three times, averaging $8389.

There was plenty of interstate interest, with bulls heading to Victoria and Queensland, via AuctionsPlus, including the $23,000 top-price bull.

Returning buyer Alex Bell, Bylong Pastoral, Injune, Qld, selected the bull, alongside three others, for an average $12,750.

The bull, Redbank Magnum W35, was among the younger end of the offering, as a March 2025-drop, and came through late in the sale, catalogued as lot 51.

By SAV Magnum 1335, and out of Redbank Jane P49, the 744-kilogram bull has a spread of estimated breeding value (EBV) figures all within the top 10 per cent for the breed, including docility at +36, scrotal size at +4.1, mature cow weight at +146 and milk at +28.

Even more impressive were the growth figures, which sat in the top 1pc with 200-day, 400-day and 600-day growth of +77, +133 and +173 and carcase weight of +110.

His Angus Breeding Low Feed Cost Index ($A-L) of $445 also sat in the top 10pc with the Angus Breeding Index ($A) of $250 was in the top 20pc.

Redbank principal Shaun Connolly had a great set of figures and was "well put together".

"He has softness, thickness and extreme muscling," he said.

Other standout lots included Redbank Stellar V178, an 851kg, two-year-old, which sold to Geelong Leather, Culcairn, for $16,000.

By Sitz Stellar 726D, out of Redbank Dream T186, his breeding goes back to Premier Dream K62, a full sister to Aberdeen Estate Dream F21, which set an Australian record in 2014 when she sold to Redbank Angus for $48,000.

Stellar's figures include a gestational length of +8.2, rib fat of +3.4 and 400-day growth of +115, all in the top 10pc, as was the $A of $258 and $A-L of $457, while the 200-day and 600-day weights of +62 and +144 were in the top 20pc.

Geelong Leather bought two bulls for an average $11,500.

Also selling at $16,000 was Redbank Paratrooper V130, an 883kg two-year-old, bought by Marcus Lynam, Crookwell.

Sired by Millah Murrah Paratrooper P15, out of Redbank Dream L15, this bull also went back to Aberdeen Estate Dream F21.

His figures include +63 for 200-day and +145 for 600-day weights, both in the top 10pc, and +110 for 400-day, in the top 15pc.

AJ and L Watteson, Forest Reefs, selected three bulls at $7000 while Kym Masters, Millthorpe, bought four bulls at $6000.

Mr Connolly was pleased with the outcome, particularly the "near perfect" clearance given the addition of another 18 bulls.

He said the stud was gradually increasing its numbers each year as the sale built its momentum.
