Local and interstate buyers went head-to-head at Ashmore Rams 33rd annual sale, driving a full clearance of 168 White Suffolk rams to an average of $1630.

There was interest from four states as improved seasonal conditions and renewed confidence in lamb markets fuelled competition from start to finish.

The top price of the day was $5500 for lot 1, purchased by repeat buyers Southdale White Suffolk Stud, Brookton, WA.

Already used as a ram lamb at Ashmore, lot 1 had sired 95 progeny in LAMBPLAN and ranked in the top 1-5 per cent nationally.

He boasted standout figures, including a post weaning weight of 22.8, eye muscle depth of 4.1, and a Terminal Carcase Production index of 166.

Another highlight was lot 5, snapped up for $3000 by a multi-state syndicate in Booloola and Charinga studs, Vic, and Bundara Downs, Western Flat.

All repeat Ashmore clients, the studs secured a son of 'elite sire' Ashmore 221308, with the ran posting impressive figures of 21.2 PWWT, 4.5 PEMD, and a 174 Carcase Plus index.

This year's sale drew 28 registered buyers from the Mid North, Eyre Peninsula, Barossa Valley, South East, Vic and NSW.

One NSW client took home 17 rams, while 16 went to a repeat buyer from the Barossa, and 14 to a returning Vic client.

AuctionsPlus facilitated the sale of 41 rams to nine buyers across SA and Vic.

The results compared favourably to that of 2024, when 135 of 177 rams sold for an average of $1303 and top price of $5000.

Ashmore principal Troy Fischer said the family were thrilled with the full clearance and strong bidding across the board

"It's a great vote of confidence in our breeding direction," he said.

"Clients consistently praise our rams for their LAMBPLAN data, carcase shape, and structural soundness.

"We're hearing excellent feedback on lamb evenness, rapid market readiness, and strong weight gains.

"It's rewarding to see our rams are delivering in the paddock."

Nutrien stud stock auctioneer Gordon Wood praised the lineup, noting the rams were well-presented, backed by top-tier data, and in high demand.

While the average price rose from previous years, value remained strong, with over 20pc of rams selling between $1000 and $1200.

The sale was conducted by Nutrien and interfaced with AuctionsPlus.
