There was interstate support at the top end of the 64th Dubbo National Poll Hereford sale on July 1, with buyers travelling from Queensland, Victoria, and Tasmania as well as local interest.

The grand champion bull, who was sashed earlier that day under judges Kelly and Teeny Runzer, Merawah, Boggabilla, was the first to reach the $20,000 top price.

JTR Unleashed U033, exhibited by JTR Cattle Co, Roslyn, was knocked down to online bidder Taronga Poll Herefords, Paschendale, Vic.

The July-2023 drop, by Tycolah Queenscliff N029 and from GFC Bolt Vanity, weighed 1020 kilograms.

Tim Reid, JTR, said the bull had been a standout from a young age and had been successful at both the Canberra and Sydney Royals.

The stud had collected semen and Mr Reid said he favoured the bull's breeding.

"You don't get bulls like him very often. He's pretty special to us," he said.

"He's out of a cow that's done really good things for us, and out of a sire we decided to use to put some performance and punch back into our cattle - Queenscliff has done that hands down."

Mr Reid said Taronga had not bought from JTR previously, but he was thrilled to have the bull going to another stud.

JTR also sold the intermediate champion bull, JTR Unlimited U055, to Bolong Farms, Goulburn, for $8000.

Mr Reid praised the quality of bulls presented and noted the importance of the show and sale as an opportunity for young breeders.

The other $20,000 bull was Supple Updated, exhibited by the Rumbel family of Supple Whiteface, Guyra.

By Tummel Elite R051 and from Supple Denise 96, the May-2023 drop weighed 956kg.

He was bought by Bermuda Hills, Glen Huon, Tasmania.

Ben Rumbel said the operation was a new buyer for Supple and travelled to the sale to see the bull in person.

"He's a good bull with really good skin and hair, good EMA, plenty of length and good sire's outlook," he said.

"He went to a young family... they're first time buyers but they've looked at our cattle for a couple of years.

"They flew over and bought him and flew home."
