AN ONLINE buyer has secured the top lot at Glendan Park's annual bull sale at Barfold.

The stud offered 37 Hereford bulls and sold 23 for an average of $8173, as well as 37 Angus bulls and sold 30 for an average of $8133.

The top price was made for the first Angus bull of the catalogue, Lot 41, Adameluca Unreal U9, which was offered after the run of Hereford bulls.

The bull was purchased through AuctionsPlus by Black Aqua Angus stud principal Josh Trimble, Myrrhee, for $30,000.

It was the first time Mr Trimble had purchased from the stud but he said he had been a long-term admirer.

He said it was the bull's growth figures that stood out to him.

He said he hadn't seen the bull in person but had plenty of "good judges" check him out on his behalf.

He said he also appreciated the bull's docility, as well as his balanced dataset.

The April 2023-drop bull was sired by Milwillah Slideshow Q102, out of Witherswood Sideshow N0045, and recorded estimated breeding values (EBVs) of +5.2 kilograms birth weight (BW), +67kg 200-day weight, +123kg 400-day weight, +163kg 600-day weight, +7.9 square centimetres eye muscle area (EMA) and +2.4 per cent intramuscular fat (IMF).

Mr Trimble, who runs 200 cattle, said the bull would be used through his stud herd, and would also have semen and sexed semen marketed through Genetics Australia.

A bull described by Elders auctioneer Ross Milne as the "pick of the day" lived up to its expectations, making the top price in the Hereford portion of the sale.

And the bull is off to a Queensland buyer who described it as one of the "best bulls" he has seen all year.

Devon Court Hereford stud principal Tom Nixon, Drillham, Qld, purchased Lot 10, Glendan Park Upside U176, over the phone for $18,000.

Mr Nixon said he saw the bull two days before the sale on his trip south and the bull was just what he was looking for.

"He's a very impressive bull," he said.

"He's got fantastic phenotype, good bone, big footed and a powerful body type but is incredibly soft."

The May 2023-drop polled bull was sired by Allendale Jackal P176, out of Glendan Park Marshall L N071, and recorded EBVs of +7.6kg BW, +46kg 200-day weight, +82kg 400-day weight, +112kg 600-day weight, +6.4sqcm EMA and +2.7pc IMF.

He said this was the sixth bull he had purchased from Glendan Park over the years.

"We like coming back to studs that work well with our herd," he said.

Mr Nixon runs 250 stud females and 750 commercial females on his south-east Queensland property and also purchased a bull for $25,000 at Morganvale Poll Hereford stud's Willalooka, SA, sale on his recent trip south.

Glendan Park stud principal Alvio Trovatello said it was a "tough" sale that was indicative of the season and cow numbers out there.

"It's pretty dry from here to South Australia, and the north's not much better," he said.

"[The cattle] were one of the better lineups we've had in terms of consistency and type."

Mr Milne said it was a "buyers' market".

"There was good value with a lot of bulls selling between $6000-$10,000," he said.

"It was good to see some new faces in both the Hereford and Angus, and good to see some stud inquiry, too."
