Canberra Royal 2025: Speckle Park breed judging results

In a debut in the show ring a Speckle Park heifer claimed the supreme exhibit in the breed judging at the 2025 Royal Canberra Show.

Topiram Uptown Girl, exhibited by Angela McGrath, Freemans Reach, was awarded the title by judge Peter Collins, Merridale Angus, Tennyson, Victoria.

The 17-month-old junior and grand champion female was sired by Deeargee New Frontier and out of Waratah Rose Q7.

Ms McGrath said they purchased her last year as a 10-month-old from the Topiram sale.

"We liked how sweet she was and really feminine," she said.

"We AI'd her at the start of the year to a Canadian bull."

Ms McGrath said they had taken her to two junior cattle workshops to help educate youth last year but this was her first time in the show ring.

She said she will now be used as a ballot animal for paraders at a local show before going onto Sydney Royal.

Ms McGrath said they were slowly building up their Speckle Park numbers, currently with about eight breeders.

Uptown Girl claimed the title ahead of the grand champion bull 8 Mile Locked and Loaded, exhibited by Alexandrea and Peter Munday, Caloola.

The 17-month-old junior champion bull, 716 kilograms, was sired by Epic Professor P7 and out of Worthwhile H.D. All Out.

Ms Munday said his overall structural correctness made him a standout.

"He's got a beautiful temperament - he's so well natured," she said.

"This was his second show, the first was the national all breeds where he was shown by a teenager."

The Munday's run about 40 breeders and sold the bull straight after Canberra.

The senior champion female was awarded to Southern Cross Tequila Sunrise T2, also exhibited by Ms McGrath.

The 18-month-old Speckle Park was sired by Prairie Hill Loaded Up 5E and out of Southern Cross Kool N Karm K2.
