Canberra Royal 2025: Miniature Hereford breed judging results

A Miniature Hereford with maturity and style reigned supreme in the breed judging at the 2025 Royal Canberra Show.

Palisade Jim B, exhibited by Palisade Miniature Herefords, Camden South, was awarded the title under the eye of judge Geordie Elliot, GC Livestock Black Simmentals, Hamilton, Victoria.

The three-year-old bull, 692 kilograms, was sired by Palisade Ernie and out of Palisade Donna.

Mackayla Parish, Palisade, said she loved him "because of his full structure".

"He's nice and deep," she said.

"We breed for one eye patch which he's got."

Ms Parish said Jim B had been shown since he was a calf claiming ribbons at Brisbane Royal last year, and every Canberra Royal he had been to.

She said they now planned to sell him, preferably to another stud.

Mr Elliot said the supreme bull showed all the attributes he wanted to see in a Miniature Hereford with good length of spine and depth of rib.

"The amount of maturity and style he shows is really nice to see," he said.

"He travels really well and is well put together with a nice head and good set of horns," he said.

Palisade Miniature Hereford had a clean sweep in the ring, with Jim B was awarded supreme exhibit over the senior and grand champion female Palisade Kora.

The two-year-old cow, sired by Palisade Ernie and out of Baringup Missy, was described by Mr Elliot to be "the most complete package".

He said she had good leg angle and a good deep rib.

The junior champion female was awarded to Palisade Louis, while reserve junior champion went to Palisade Leia.

Louis, 16-months-old, was sired by Palisade Ernie and out of Palisade Donna and was described by Mr Elliot to have volume and capacity.

"Not the biggest but she carries the most meat, most carcase and spring of rib," he said.

The reserve senior champion female was awarded to Palisade Kala, a two-year-old sired by Palisade Ernie and out of Palisade Donna.

The reserve senior champion bull went to Palisade Kovu, 442kg, a two-year-old bull sired by Palisade Ernie and out of Baringup Gale.
