A loyal supporter of the Royal Canberra Show received the top ribbon in the Galloway ring, with a cow displaying longevity.

Nine-year-old Minro Irene 8th exhibited by Christine Hart, Yass surpassed the other 13 exhibits in the Galloway ring under judge David Bolton, Shepparton, Vic.

Previously being named the senior champion cow of the breed, Irene 8th competed against the junior champion female Monreith Ultramarine, exhibited by Jason and Susan Vials, Spring Hill for the grand champion female ribbon.

She then continued her success after winning the supreme title over the grand champion bull Monreith Thommo, also exhibited by Jason and Susan Vials.

Mr Bolton said the cow and calf unit was a magnificent package.

"I know in the beef job we don't ever give to much thought about udders, but if you actually get up and have a look at this snug udder at nine year old all of us would like to have udders on cows at that age in that shape," he said.

"She's raising a powerful bull calf, that cows working hard to me, probably hasn't had quite the show preparation but like I said she's sound in the feet and legs.

"Don't forget this cow has potentially had six calves in her life and got through.

"You've got to admire the longevity of that nine-year-old cow, along with the strength of that udder and the power in the bull calf."

Chistine Hart, Minto Galloways, Yass said she's done really well in her show career.

"She's an old show cow we just pulled out of the paddock and said you will do," she said.

"As the judge obviously did, we believe in the longevity of the Galloways, so we always like to show an older cow with a calf at foot.

"The calf is by a homebred sire of ours, Minto Kim 2nd , who is sired by an American bull called Moto Moto.

"Kim's thrown beautifully calves this year and Moto Moto is renowned for his good solid calves."

This was the studs second success winning supreme exhibit with a nine-year-old cow, Minto Miakerry, in 2023.

The grand champion bull Monreith Thommo was previously sashed champion bull earlier in the day.

Mr Bolton said the bull was a softer made bull that moves about the ring well.

The junior champion bull was awarded to Lilliesleaf Hawk exhibited by Elizabeth Stuart, Yass.
