Canberra Royal 2025: Angus breed judging results

In her first and only outing to a royal show, an Angus cow with a bull calf at foot claimed supreme exhibit in the breed judging at Canberra Royal 2025.
Yallambee Beatrix S125, exhibited by JTR Cattle Company and Ross Robertson, Roslyn, was awarded the supreme ribbon by judge Peter Collins, Merridale Angus, Tennyson, Victoria.
The three-year-old cow was sired by Sitz Stellar 726 and out of Old Kentucky Royal-Line H33.
Tim Reid, JTR Cattle Company, said she was purchased from the Yallambee dispersal sale last year.
"She was a cow that was our pick out of that dispersal and we were kind of shocked that we got her on the budget we had," he said.
"We bought her home and I kept looking at her, kept looking at her and I haven't show in Angus much in quite a few years but thought she was too good of a cow to just sit there in the paddock."
Mr Reid said he loved her volume and capacity.
"Being a Hereford breeder I like a bit of extra bone in my cattle and I think as an Angus she's the ideal for me, with the good hip and the wedginess she's got," he said.
"[She is] a structurally sound cow with a fair bit of performance without being too extreme."
Mr Reid said they decided to try and win with her at Canberra, which would be her one and only trip to a royal.
"She'll go home and out into the paddock and relax and go back into our flush program," he said.
Mr Reid said the bull calf would now be weaned off.
"He will be one of our lead bulls to go over stud and commercial cows for the next few years," he said.
"He excites us with how much power and performance he's going to be able to put into our herd with such good feet."
Mr Collins said she was a "beautiful young female with a good calf on her" who was very sound in the udder.
"She has a great attitude - she really shows herself off," he said.
Beatrix S125 claimed the supreme Angus exhibit over the senior and grand champion bull Hollywood Top O' The Morning T12, exhibited by IC and LE Frecklington, Peak Hill.
The two-year-old bull, 1146 kilograms, was sired by Hollywood Longmire L18 and out of Hollywood Xanthe Cheyenne N2.
Mr Collins said he was "all power with ripping muscle" but enough softness.
The grand champion bull won the title ahead of the junior champion bull Hollywood Vaya Con Dios V5, also exhibited by IC and LE Frecklington.
The 11-month-old bull, 584kg, was sired by Hollywood Longmire L18 and out of Hollywood Vanessa N6.
In the junior championship Mr Collins said the bull had thickness over the top, a beautiful head, good neck extension and length of body.
"[He is] really sound on his feet," he said.
Mr Collins said he was a "clear winner" over the reserve junior champion Hollywood Ultimate Hunk U72, also exhibited by the Frecklingtons.
The 16-month-old 754kg Angus bull, sired by Hollywood Vrd Redford R30 and out of Hollywood Quatro Cheyenne Q27, was described by Mr Collins to walk really well and had tremendous length.
"He will breed great females," he said.
The junior champion female was awarded Myers Lady Louise, exhibited by Myers Angus, The Rock.
The 18-month-old heifer was sired by Premier Stunner R55 and out of Myanga Lady Louise.
"I admire how good she is - a deserving junior champion," Mr Collins said.
Lady Louise claimed the junior champion title ahead of the reserve PC Miss Showman U131, exhibited by the Taylor Family, Big River Angus, Dubbo.
The 16-month-old was sired by Schiefelbien Showman 338 and out of PC Miss Gabba R092.
The reserve senior champion female was awarded to Ashgrove Toque T12, exhibited by Barham and Sowter, Werai.
