Canberra Royal 2025: Miniature Galloways and Miniature Belted Galloways breed results
Victorian breeders showed their dominance in the ring at the 2025 Royal Canberra Show, with a young heifer being recognised for her potential under judge David Bolton, Shepparton, Vic.
A 16-month-old heifer, Oakvale Ullabella Ruby, exhibited by Barmaroo Miniature Galloways, Darra Guim, Vic, rose above the other six breed exhibits to claim the supreme champion Miniature Galloway and Miniature Belted Galloway ribbon.
By the Galloway Magic Neville sire and out of Balytyckle Sequin, the young female was previously sashed junior champion female, before winning grand champion female over her stable-mate Springhill Park Umi, also exhibited by Barmaroo Miniature Galloways.
She then continued her success when going head-to-head with the senior and grand champion bull Balytyckle Top Gun, exhibited by Balytykle Miniature Galloways, Acheron, Vic.
Judge David Bolton said he admired the young female for her structural soundness.
"She's really good through her topline, her frontend, has a depth of body, lovely of those hips and pins, and if we came down to it, she is just a bit better set up through the hind quarter than the bull," he said.
Holly Dee, Barmaroo Miniature Galloways, said she purchased the young female at 6-months of age.
"She was grand champion at the Geelong Show last year, as well as junior champion at Melbourne Royal," she said.
Ms Dee said she plans to keep the female as a breeder, with her currently being in calf to the grand champion bull, Balytyckle Top Gun.
The grand champion bull was the only bull exhibited in the breed, however Mr Bolton said it was still a good exhibit.
"Beautifully made, strong topped, moves around the ring well," he said.
"He has a lovely demeanour about his eye, really a lot to like about him."
The reserve junior heifer was awarded to Balytyckle Valentines Kiss, exhibited by Balytykle Miniature Galloways, Acheron, Vic.
