Yavenvale Herefords is a family-owned business operated by James & Nicki and Pat Pearce. The stud was founded in 1999 on 500 registered females of pure
GVPC blood following a family restructure.
The main property “Yavenvale”, where the annual on-property bull sale is held is located in the Yaven Creek area, 40km south of Adelong and 48km north of
Tumbarumba. Yavenvale is undulating country, running to a peak of 777 metres with a 1000mm average annual rainfall.
The stud has grown to number over 1000 registered females and is one of the largest registered herds in the country.
Our on-property bull sale is held the third Wednesday in February when 110+ bulls are offered.
With the recent addition of “Carinya” and “Rockdale” at Yaven Creek, we have 2953 hectares under our ownership and management spread over seven
different properties.
Poll blood was introduced to our herd for the first time in 2002 and the female herd is now 100% poll bred.
Yavenvale utilises Breedplan as a selection and management tool and all stud cattle have complete Breedplan figures, including analysis for growth and carcase
data. We have a balanced performance program that focuses on superior milk, muscle, marbling and growth EBVs with phenotype and structural correctness
completing the genetic package.
The 2019 Yavenvale Q drop calves are the first to all be genotyped guaranteeing greater pedigree integrity. Each animal will have genomic assisted EBVs,
increasing accuracy across a number of traits.
Yavenvale is the home of Hereford marbling with over 400 active females ranking in the top 5% of the breed for IMF (intra muscular fat). Yavenvale Juke
J022 is one of the highest IMF sires in the breed at +3.5 and we continue to place selection pressure on this important trait.
Artificial Insemination is heavily utilised at Yavenvale. Depending on seasonal conditions 500-600 females are inseminated annually using semen from our top
selling bulls and genetics from leading studs in Australia, NZ and North America.
The use of embryo transfer has grown significantly at Yavenvale. Depending on flush results around 70 embryos are implanted on an annual basis from some of
our elite females.
Yavenvale has had several sires accepted into the Herefords Australia (HAL) progeny test program and three sires accepted into the Black Baldy Trial. Sires
are accepted on the basis of outstanding EBVs, dollar indexes and genetic potential. The Yavenvale sires have either topped our annual sale or have been
retained as stud sires.
In 2017 Yavenvale was named in the top 100 NSW producers for the MSA Excellence in Eating Quality Awards. This award was important recognition for
the high standard of cattle that we have been supplying to branded beef products such as Hereford True and Teys Grasslands. There were over 6.3
million cattle graded nationally under the MSA scheme between 2015 – 2017 and 5240 producers consigned cattle from NSW. Judging criteria included MSA
compliance levels and average MSA index – Yavenvale genetics are performing on the highest industry stage!
Yavenvale was awarded Reserve Champion in the 2013 RASV Heifer Challenge run during Stock & Land Beef Week. The competition took place over the eight
days of beef week in southern NSW & Victoria with over 600 heifers entered. Yavenvale was a finalist in the inaugural (2012) competition and again in 2017. The 10 registered heifers were judged for presentation, physical correctness, femininity, feet and legs, uniformity and temperament.
