Tattykeel Australian White sale tops $22,000 at Black Springs for $11,200 stud average

Summary

Buyers from every state packed the sale shed for the 13th annual Tattykeel Australian White sale at Black Springs on September 23, with more than 100 also bidding on AuctionsPlus. Some travelled for three days and spent two nights on the road to attend.

The sale opened strongly, with lot 2, tag ET 250075, secured by Quartz Australian White stud, Forbes, for the $22,000 top price. The April-born ram weighed 127 kilograms and was sired by 230894 and out of 220058. The buying stud has been sourcing Tattykeel genetics since 2020, first through embryo transfer programs and now through rams to support its commercial clients.

In all, 23 of the 24 stud rams sold for an average of $11,200, while 151 of the 197 flock rams sold to a top of $8000 for an average of $4060. In the ewe portion, 38 of the 47 scanned-in-lamb ewes sold to a top of $4000 reached four times for an average of $2513, and 20 stud ewes sold to a top of $2000 for an average of $1566.

Two of the top-priced scanned-in-lamb ewes went to Jembella Farm Australian White stud, Angaston, South Australia, at $4000 apiece. The stud again donated the proceeds from flock ram 250028, which made $6000, to Spinal Cord Injuries Australia. Elders and QPL Rural conducted the sale.
