Nareeb Nareeb lifts annual sale with top Merino ram up $1000 on 2025 result

Nareeb Nareeb Poll Merinos recorded gains across all fronts in a stellar year for the stud, highlighted by a top-priced ram selling for $5500.
The Nareeb stud achieved a $202 increase to the average at $2160, selling 70 of 80 rams on offer.
It was strong result compared to last year that saw an average of $1958 with 60 of 80 rams cleared to a peak of $4000.
The top-priced ram, Lot 8, had an 18.8-micron fleece and 119 per cent greasy fleece weight.
The ram was sold for the top price at $5500 to Fairview, Freshwater Creek.
The farm runs several thousand Merino and crossbred ewes for lambing and owner Mark Ham, Freshwater Creek, said the ram comprised good wool and a strong carcase.
"Between meat, growth for age, and wool production, he was the best ram that was on offer," Mr Ham said.
"A reflection of the type that Nareeb breed, which we've been using for many years."
This ram will be used to correct a selection of ewes at the Freshwater Creek property to promote stronger genetics in the flock.
Nareeb Nareeb Poll Merinos stud principal Richard Beggs was pleased with the result for this year.
"I thought it was quite strong," Mr Beggs said.
"The ewe numbers are obviously a bit down around the area, so it didn't require quite as many as usual, but that's a reflection of the last couple of years
"We produce a well-balanced Merino that cuts a good heavy fleece and also has a good carcase so you can maximise income through both wool and meat in the one package."
This year, Nareeb Nareeb introduced a feedlot at the property to finish off their wether lambs.
"That's provided us with a lot of options and lets us actually really finish off the genetics that we're breeding," Mr Beggs said.
"I think the top price ram sort of had a little bit of everything. Very good wool cutter and a very good carcase sheep."
