Palgrove Charolais and Ultraback bull sale grosses nearly $2.9 million

A three-state buyers' panel was active at the annual Palgrove Charolais and Ultrablack bull sale at Chinchilla on September 11.

Charolais bulls hit $95,000 while Ultrablack bulls sold to $85,000.

In a detailed analysis of the offering, eight Brangus bulls topped at $45,000, setting a $17,625 average while 65 Ultrablack bulls hit $85,000 on the way to recording an average of 12,369.

Eleven Ultrablack yearlings topped at $8000 setting a $7091 average. Three of the bulls were passed in during that segment of the offering with two selling before day's end.

In the Charolais section of the catalogue, 81 bulls reached $95,000 to average $19,482 while 14 yearling counterparts sold to $48,000 to set a $21,000 average. There was a total clearance of the Charolais section of the sale.

Vendors, the Noller and Daley families, Palgrove Charolais stud and the Palgrove Brangus and Ultrablack studs saw a massive geographical spread in the buying addresses with sustained and vigorous competition from the online bidding fraternity.

Cattle will be going to destinations as far south as South Australia and north to Townsville.

In all, 18 online bidders were successful throughout the sale, securing cattle in a fixture that resulted in a gross of $2.895 million.

In 2025 179 bulls sold for a 100 per cent clearance, a $19,492 average, and a $3,489,000 gross.

Ninety-two Charolais bulls sold to $75,000 for a 100 per cent clearance and a $20,239 average. In the Ultrablack category 81 bulls sold to $55,000 to average $18,704 while six Brangus bulls sold to $34,000 setting a $18, 667 average.

Sale topper this year, at $95,000, was the Charolais bull, Palgrove Velocity (PP) (R/F) to regular investors, Len and Sue Bode, Percol Plains, McKinlay.

The 24-month-old homozygous polled bull by Palgrove Red Rock (P) was from the household female line, the Panache family, Palgrove Panache Q2100 (P).

Velocity weighed in at 950kg, had an eye muscle area of 147 square centimetres, 8mm of rump fat, 7mm of rib fat, and an intramuscular fat reading of 5pc.

Percol Plains also took the following lot, the $70,000 Palgrove Vermont (PP). The 29-month-old by Silverstream Spectra (PP) (R/F) weighed 970 kilograms with P8 and rib fat measurements of 11 and 8mm respectively, an EMA of 145sq cm and IMF of 5.7pc.

Percol Plains ended with a trio for a $62,334 average.

Topping the Brangus and the Ultrablack section of the offering was the $85,000 Palgrove Venture Capital (P).

The homozygous polled, homozygous black son of Palgrove Quality Time (ET) (TJM Three D (US)) 24.5-month-old entry weighed 994 kilograms with a P8 and rib fat measurements of 11 and 7 mm respectively, an EMA of 142sq cm and IMF of 6.8pc.

Selecting the bull as their only purchase were Emerald-based breeders, Brad and Briony Comiskey, Lunar stud.

Commenting on their purchase after the sale, Mr Comiskey said, "We inspected the bull prior to the sale, his sheath design and underline is impeccable, his overall length and breed characteristics are all standouts, he's got a great sire's head and outlook, we'll be utilising him in both our Brangus and Ultrablack herds".

Volume buyers included AM Trading, Redcliffe, Moranbah, taking five Charolais for a $21,600 average.

Charlton Grazing, Springsure ended with four for a $19,500 average.

Scott McClymont, Rosella Plains, Mt Garnet took nine for a $6445 average and Rowe Cattle Company, Buffel Park Station, Middlemount signed off on four for a $16,750 average.

BM and Banjo Grazing Company, Allandale, Blackall secured a trio of Charolais for a $40,334 average topping at $45,000.

Bill Dart, Thirlstone Roma added strong support, taking eight Charolais for a $15,000 average.

Taking five for a $15,200 average was the Dart family, Keengea, Torrens Creek.

The Burnett family, Bendemere, Clermont bought seven for a $13,143 average while the Arnaboldi family, Allanard Station, Jericho returned, taking six Charolais for a hefty $22,333 average topping at $30,000.

Picking up 11 head from the Brangus and Ultrablack section for a $6545 average was LLSG Holdings Pty Ltd., Harvey's Range, Townsville.

Adrian and Megan Forrest, Bellona, Augathella returned taking two for a $40,500 average. This result consisted of a $45,000 Brangus entry, Palgrove Victory (P) (Belview Trojan T100 (ET)) and the last bull of the sale, the $36,000 Ultrablack, Palgrove Venturo (P).

Bush Holdings, Maytoe, Alpha outlaid an average $18,000 for their trio of black bulls while Will and Narda Roberts, Victoria Downs, Morven picked up a pair of Charolais for a $34,000 average topping at $48,000 for the top-selling yearling Charolais entry, Palgrove Whatafella (P) (R/F) (ET).

Mark and Belinda Wilson, Banana Station, Banana chose three black entries for an average $6667.

The Davis family, Barambah-Dale stud, Dalby secured the $45,000 and another of the red factor entries, Palgrove Validation (PP) aged 25.5-months.

BKM Pastoral Company, Pony Hills, Taroom, returned, taking three Brangus and Ultrablacks for an average of $16,000.

Triple P Grazing, Ban Ban Station, Longreach took with them for a $6500 average in the black section of the catalogue.
