Strong repeat demand for Cree Santa Gertrudis bulls at Thangool sale
Cree Santa Gertrudis has recorded a 100 per cent clearance at its annual bull sale, a strong result that highlights continued confidence in the Thangool stud's program.
All 81 bulls offered were sold to average $16,654 and gross $1,348,974.
Buyers travelled from across Queensland and NSW to secure bulls, which found homes from Gunnedah in southern NSW through to Hughenden in western Queensland and Tully in North Queensland, reflectingthe broad demand for Cree genetics.
Top honours went to Cree Winston W124 (PP), which sold for $47,500 to Spring Creek Santa Gertrudis at Tansey, west of Gympie.
At 23 months, W124 weighed 841kg and recorded a daily gain of 1.23kg, with 11 millimetres of P8 fat, 7mm rib fat, an eye muscle area of 133 square centimetres and a 43 centimetre scrotal circumference.
The second top-priced bull was Cree Winchester W186 (P), selling for $37,500 to Strathmore Santa Gertrudis stud at Blackall.
The 24-month-old bull weighed 820kg and recorded a daily gain of 1.11kg, with 10mm P8 fat, 7mm rib fat, an EMA of 135sq cm and a 40cm scrotal circumference.
Strong support came from a number of repeat volume buyers, with Campbell Pastoral, Mitchell, securing seven bulls at an average of $15,142, and Juandah aggregation, Wandoan, purchased five bulls at an average of $13,600.
The Strathmore Santa Gertrudis stud purchased four bulls at an average of $22,375, while new attendees, Hutchison Ag, secured four at an average of $17,500.
Tremere Cattle Co, Westmar, also purchased four bulls, averaging $19,500.
In 2025, all 82 bulls offered were sold to a top price of $57,000 to Brigadoon Cattle Co, resulting in an average price paid of $14,512.
The bulls were presented in fit and healthy condition, ready to go to work, with the 81 bulls averaging 710kg.
The 100 pc clearance, $16,654 average and $1.35 million gross represented a solid result for the Cree Santa Gertrudis team and vendors, with strong buyer participation underpinning the 2026 offering.
Stud principals Shaun and Jo McGuigan donated half the proceeds of lot 53 to the Capricorn Helicopter Rescue Service, which totalled $8000.
