Oasis A bulls highly sought after at Carnarvon Classic Droughtmaster sale
Stud and commercial buyers were celebrating after getting their hands on genetics from leading seedstock enterprises at the sixth annual Carnarvon Classic Droughtmaster bull sale at the Rolleston Livestock Selling Complex on Thursday, September 3.
Five studs, Huntly, Oasis, Oasis A, Karragarra and Calco offered 66 bulls to the market with 58 cleared to average $9698 and top at $20,000 twice.
In 2025, 58 of 60 bulls sold to average $12,620 and top at $38,000.
The first to be knocked down at the top price this year was the 20-month-old Oasis A Mr Nobel son, Oasis A Lord Sugar.
The homozygous polled bull tipped the scales at 868 kilograms, scanned 134 square centimetres for eye muscle area, recorded 10 and 8 millimetres for P8 and rib fat depths, and measured 44 centimetres for scrotal circumference.
Purchased by Pine Valley Droughtmasters, Kandanga, he is set to begin stud duties.
Stud principal Dean Blanckensee had been chasing Oasis bulls for a few years and was very excited to finally obtain one.
"I was the underbidder at the last Droughtmaster National on an Oasis A bull and am very glad to finally get one," he said.
"I like the weight-for-age and temperament of this bull. All of his scans and figures match perfectly to what I am trying to put into my herd.
"He will run in my stud and I hope he will put through the meat and bone that I have been chasing."
The next lot to enter the ring also exited at an equal top price.
The son of Oasis A Mouse, Oasis A Raider, weighed 828 kilograms, had a 138sq cm EMA, recorded 9 and 8 millimetres for P8 and rib fat, and a scrotal circumference of 36.5 centimetres.
He was purchased by Andrew Edmistone who also secured the next lot, averaging $17,000 for his selections.
Volume buyers included the Bloxsom Family Trust and Kurrawong Droughtmasters who purchased five bulls each to average $6800 for each draft.
The top price herd bull, Oasis A 1018, was purchased by J and J Dahl for $18,000.
Sale coordinator Jane Barton was very happy with the sale overall.
"It was a really great day for a sale," she said.
"The amount of people who turned up to the sale was wonderful. We have a lovely, consistent group of local buyers who turn up every year.
"We also want to thank our wonderful sponsors who help with the day."
Elders Stud Stock agent Anthony Ball said there were some good value buys and the right bulls pulled good money all day.
"A crowd of over 45 bidders had a great day in great facilities," he said.
"Overall it was a solid sale and a great start to the Droughtmaster selling season."
