Munnabah bull hits $85,000, bound for high profile Queensland Santa stud

The Glenalbyn, Munnabah and Brookside Santa Gertrudis Sale delivered outstanding results at Coolah on Tuesday, achieving a complete clearance with all 45 bulls offered finding new homes at an average of $16,222.

Demand was led by commercial beef producers and stud buyers from across Queensland and NSW which was a triumph for vendors Tom and Anna Dunlop, Munnabah Santa Gertrudis, Jack Courts, Glenalbyn Santa Gertrudis and Toby Anderson, Brookside Santa Gertrudis.

Sale top honours belonged to Munnabah Thunderstruck 2010 (PS), which sold for a sale-topping $85,000 to Brett Hatton, Hatton and Co, Santahat Santa Gertrudis, Monto, Qld.

The 23-month-old sire prospect by Glen Oaks Timberland T70 (PS) GLO22MT70 and from a Munnabah-bred cow, combined outstanding performance data with elite carcase and fertility attributes.

He weighed 902kg with scanned figures of 10mm rib fat, 14mm P8 fat, an exceptional 138 square centimetre eye muscle area and an intramuscular fat score of 6.2.

Complementing his growth and carcase credentials, Thunderstruck measured 40cm for scrotal circumference and returned strong semen test results, recording 85 per cent motility and 80 per cent morphology, underlining his suitability as a high-performance breeding sire.

The second-highest price was shared by two bulls (and two vendors), each selling for $30,000.

The first of those $30,000 bulls was Glenalbyn Vancouver V10 (PS), bought by Roper Valley Pastoral Company, Middleton.

Matching that price was Brookside Vulcan 3753 (PP), which sold to Scott Humphreys, Welbatch Pastoral Pty Ltd, Mummulgum.

Among the volume buyers were long-time supporters of both the Glenalbyn and Munnabah programs, Robin and Gerard Dunn, Megine, Roma, Qld, who assembled a draft of five bulls at an average of $15,200.

The auctioneer was Harry Phillips, Nutrien Ag Solutions, Armidale.
