It was the beginning to the end of an era at the on-property Sandon Glenoch Angus sale in Chinchilla on Tuesday, August 18, with the 2026 sale one of the stud's last ahead of its planned complete herd dispersal in May 2027.

This year, stud principals Tam and Roger Boshammer offered 73 bulls, of which 52 sold to achieve a 71 per cent clearance, a $7846 average, and a $408,000 gross.

One lot sold post-sale to bring the clearance to 73pc, the average to $7811, and the gross to $414,000.

The top-price bull, Glenoch Waymaker V391, was knocked down for $18,000 to Andrew Turvey, Juandah Aggregation, Juandah Plains, Wandoan.

The 23-month-old bull, sired by Connealy Way Maker and out of Glenoch Beauty N154, weighed 698 kilograms, and was in the top 3pc of the breed for his gestation length estimated breeding value.

At last year's sale, which included bulls from vendors Nick and Kate Boshammer, NB Genetics, 78 of 103 bulls sold for a 75pc clearance, and an $8807 average.

Of the Sandon Glenoch Angus lots at the 2025 sale, Tam and Roger achieved a $14,000 top and an average of $7754 from selling 61 bulls.

As well as the top-price bull, Mr Turvey bought an additional three lots at the sale this year, purchasing a total of four bulls for an average of $12,000.

Mr Turvey's agent, Jay Pearce, TopX, Taroom, was bidding on his behalf.

Mr Turvey, the general manager for Willinga Pastoral Company, said he had been purchasing Sandon Glenoch Angus bulls for six years.

"We've got 11 properties in the Western Downs area - Wandoan, Condamine, and Glenmorgan areas," he said.

"We do have our own breeder herd, which is mainly a Santa-cross Hereford base, with some Angus.

"I've been buying bulls from Roger and Tam for about six years now, for all our properties.

"Most of them go over Hereford heifers and Santa Herefords, and the progeny will aim for the domestic markets."

When asked what kept him coming back to Sandon Glenoch Angus bulls, Mr Turvey said it was their longevity.

"They're doing the job for us in that crossbreeding," he said.

"We've had bulls that we bought six years ago that are doing two joinings a year and are still doing the job for us, so we've been happy that way."

Glenoch Waymaker V391, the top-priced lot, caught Mr Turvey's eye for his figures.

"I just thought he was a good calf, and he ticked the boxes with birth weight for our heifers, and also a bit of early growth," he said.

Overall, Sandon Glenoch Angus stud principal Roger Boshammer said it was definitely a buyers' day, but that the sale still achieved a solid result with plenty of return buyers making a reappearance.

"Juandah Plains bought bulls five years ago. They've still got them, they're doing two seasons a year, autumn and spring matings," he said.

When asked what he believed stood out about the sale's top-priced lot, Mr Boshammer said the bull had been one of his picks for a long time.

"He was a low birth weight bull, and he was a good bull," he said.

"Lot 40 was [from the Beauty line]. I bought a Beauty cow and a Flower cow in 1974.

"The Beauties came from a herd right down in NSW. They were just good foundation cows."

Bulk buyers at the sale included KF and KM Rule, Charleville, who purchased nine lots for an average of $7333, and Kilmorey Cattle Company, Kilmorey, Mitchell, who purchased six lots for an average of $10,000.

Ray White Dalby Livestock agent David Felsch said the sale performance reflected the needs of the buyers present, and that it was encouraging to see the return of many clients loyal to Sandon Glenoch Angus cattle.
