Repeat buyers dominate bidding as Inglebrae Farms records full clearance
Repeat local clients dominated the bidding at Inglebrae Farms Angus bull sale on Friday but new buyers looking for phenotype and breeding topped the sales chart.
A full clearance of 38 bulls sold to an average of $10,000 with the highest price of $24,000 paid for Inglebrae Farms So Right V2, going to the LJ Graham Family Trust at Cootamundra.
The son of Knowla So Right S48, from a proven dam in Inglebrae Farms Quadarius Q19, tipped the scales at 864 kilograms with a scanned eye muscle area of 135 square centimetres and intramuscular fat at 8.3 per cent - equal-highest of the draft - as well as a 41cm scrotal circumference and 95pc morphology, also equal highest in the draft of bulls on offer.
Buying agent Tim Woodham, Nutrien Stud Stock, southern region, inspected the bulls prior to sale and advised his clients on V2's strong bone and phenotype, muscle pattern and fleshing ability.
"His maternal strength is very strong and that is a massive asset to the industry," Mr Woodham said.
"The ability to introduce new genetics into a program is a good thing."
So Right V2's estimated breeding values included positive growth, milk and fat with an EMA of +9.7 in the top 25pc of the Trans Tasman Angus cattle evaluation.
His intramuscular fat of +4.5 is in the top 15pc, as is his calving ease figure of +7.6.

Mr Woodham also advised Merlewood Angus stud at Mirboo North, Vic, which prompted Daniel and Anne Marie Barrow to purchase another So Right son, a bull twin in Inglebrae Farms So Right V35 from a daughter of S Chisum 255 in Inglebrae Farms Sweetpea S10, who has produced four calves in three years, three of them selected as stud sires.
Mrs Barrow said the bull's maternal lines "spoke volumes about milk and fertility", with his muscling and carcase length a real asset.
"He will bring easy-doing to our herd," said the South Gippsland Angus stud breeder.
Inglebrae Farms studmaster Darren Battistuzzi exemplified breeding traits that resonated with the Merlewood brand, such as "passion, integrity and transparency", said Mrs Barrow.
Repeat volume buyers Marcus and Kate Laurie, Midas Cattle Co, at Hillgrove via Armidale, successfully bid on eight bulls to average $10,500 and top at $22,000 for Inglebrae Farms So Right V52 from the high-volume dam Inglebrae Farms Sassi S117.
The number of bulls bought could have been higher, with Mr Laurie ticking half the catalogue and Mrs Laurie a bit trigger-happy with the online bidding button.
"There wasn't a bull in the draft that you wouldn't take home," Mr Laurie said.
"They were an even lot of bulls and we could have bought any lot and been happy with them. It is a real credit to Darren."
The sale was hosted by APL Tenterfield, which has now incorporated Alford and Duff to better service the district, with StockLive and AuctionsPlus handling the online traffic.
