Consistency in Wrigley Cattle Co Angus Bull Sale draft reflected in average

A well-presented, consistent line of Angus bulls attracted strong bidding support at the fourth annual Wrigley Cattle Co sale held on-property at Waitohi, Condobolin, on Friday, July 17.

All 47 bulls offered were cleared for a gross of $612,000, averaging $13,021. This average was up by $2370 from the 2025 result.

Stud co-principal Charlie Wrigley was pleased with the result, with bulls selling as far north as Charters Towers, Queensland, and as far south as northern Victoria.

"For this year's sale, we offered a string of yearlings that met with solid demand," he said.

Included in these lots were the first sons offered by Cluden Newry Uppercut U15. These young bulls averaged $11,000.

Other sires that were heavily represented in the catalogue were Rennylea S680 and Rennylea S694, Connamara P64, Twynam R29 and Landfall Summit S1944.

An artificial insemination-produced Summit S1944 son claimed top price honours this year straight off the bat when the winning $21,000 bid on lot 1, Wrigley V56, was made by Jake Smith, SWG Livestock.

The Smiths run their predominantly pure Angus herd on leased country at Junee and Gundagai. The latter location is where Wrigley V56 is destined for, where he'll be part of a team to be joined to 400 heifer calves at Kimo Station.

Mr Smith described Wrigley V56, the heaviest bull catalogued and sitting in the top 15 per cent for the breed for calving ease, growth, eye muscle area and yield, as "a bit of a standout in the sale".

"I think he'll pack a bit of punch into the heifers. I selected him because we need bulls with good calving ease that are safe to join to heifers." he said.

"His 400 (+120) and 600-day (+146) weights stood out, as did his intramuscular fat (+2.9pc), and figures for low birth weight (+1.8)."

It was Mr Smith's first time buying Wrigley genetics. He said it was the sire groups and traits of the bulls catalogued for this year's sale that stood out to him.

"These bulls presented well. I think we've paid for a good article," he said.

Mr Smith bought three bulls on the day at an average of $14,667.

Operating online through AuctionsPlus, Moonbah Pastoral's Mark Ranger was the volume buyer on the day, securing five bulls at an average of $12,400.

"Mark has been a great supporter of our program over the last few years," Mr Wrigley said.

Five repeat Wrigley buyers bought three bulls apiece.

"We really appreciated the support from our repeat buyers, and it was great to see bulls purchased by new clients," Mr Wrigley said.
