Strong demand for quality genetics at Dubbo Suffolk auction

Quality genetics met consistent demand at the inaugural NSW Suffolk Society's Dubbo Show ewe sale on May 24.
The sale followed a large Suffolk judging at the NSW Sheep Show.
Of the 19 ewes, offered via the Helmsman system, 17 sold to a top of $2000 and an average $972.
The ewes were offered from the Kurrali, Lindean, Bowen and Belvedere Park studs, with the top price ewe from the Bowen stud, Millthorpe.
The ewe, Bowen 250509, was sired by Bowen 210030, and had Australian Sheep Breeding Value figures that included an intramuscular fat of +0.02 and shearforce of -2.67.
She was bought by repeat Bowen buyer Cye Travers, Delungra.
Bowen's Greg Good said the ewe was a full sister to their champion ewe from the Sydney Royal, and had won in the pairs class alongside the sister.
He said, since they were retaining the sister, they decided to offer this ewe as "something a bit special" for the inaugural sale.
He said the sire, Bowen 210030, was a ram with high Lambplan indexes that had been breeding well.
AWN Lord Dubbo conducted the sale with Joe Portelli coordinating the bids.
