In adverse seasonal conditions, a remarkable result was achieved at the 25th annual Dulverton Angus Bull Sale held on-property at Shannon Vale Station, Glen Innes, on Wednesday, June 20.

In all, Dulverton stud principals Greg and Sally Chappell offered 71 performance-recorded Angus Bulls. Of these bulls, 70 were sold for a 99 per cent clearance to average $14,220.

This result bettered the record average achieved in 2025, when 73 bulls averaged $13,986 with a total clearance achieved.

The high water mark of the sale came straight off the bat with lot 1A Dulverton Vow & Declare V190 selling for $30,000 to long-time Dulverton client Robyn Kerr, Keringa Pastoral, Glen Innes.

Ms Kerr previously bought Dulverton Takeover Target T179, which the Chappells used for a yearling joining the season before this year's sale. Six of Takeover Target's sons in the 2026 draft averaged $21,000.

Mr Chappell said Dulverton Vow & Declare V190 by Clunie Range Ridgeback R762 and out of Dulverton Wilcoola P195, was a bull that they'd used themselves in the stud.

"We were confident that he'd sell well, but in the current selling environment, we were ecstatic that he got to $30,000.

"Based on our Igenity Beef profile, he's a great calving ease bull with above average growth, marbling and maternal longevity."

Ms Kerr and her daughter, Sally Newberry, run their operation 15km east of Glencoe in the New England Tablelands, where they predominantly run Angus with a Hereford and Shorthorn infusion. They target the heavy feeder steer market, and when needed due to the weather, they sell weaner steers.

When deciding her purchases, Ms Kerr said she liked Dulverton Vow & Declare V190 for his weight gain, marbling factor, feet and legs and overall appearance.

"His weight gain will allow us to finish feeder steers off in a minimal timeframe, his high marbling will give us an increased premium, and his feet and legs will provide increased longevity and stronger serving ability," she said.

"He's a beautiful, strong, long-bodied bull, with near-perfect feet and overall structural soundness."

Ms Kerr said he'll be joined over their commercial herd, predominantly to cows and possibly some older and/or larger grown heifers.

"We're hoping that he'll help to improve the foot structures of our current herd, while increasing the marbling and providing quicker weight gains in the younger animals."

This is the fifth Dulverton bull that Keringa Pastoral has bought. Ms Kerr said they've been impressed with the temperament, performance, longevity, stayability and overall weight gain in their Dulverton purchases.

"It's a credit to Greg and Sally for producing fantastic lines of sale bulls year after year."

Mr Chappell said he was "very pleased" with the result.

"We couldn't have asked for a better outcome. The bulls went to the destination we anticipated. A total of 27 bulls went into the Springsure precinct, where there is plenty of grass.

"Local support was a bit back, which was to be expected after the major sell-off of cows over the last four months due to the dry. However, we were excited that the two top price bulls stayed local. These producers are facing adversity and were still able to step into those bulls at $30,000 and $27,000, respectively.

The $27,000 second top-priced bull on the day, Dulverton Valhalla V088, one of the Clunie Range Ridgeback R762 sons was purchased by Royce and Fiona Meyer, Atherstone, Glen Elgin.

Buying up big at the sale were the Speed family, Goodliffe Grazing, Mantuan Downs, Queensland, who bought 17 bulls at an average of $11,823 per head.

Others who bought in bulk were Wilmot Cattle Company, which purchased nine bulls, averaging $13,556 for use on the company's New England properties, Paradise Station and Woodburn, while Qld commercial producer Colin Varidel, Wandoan Trading, Yuleba, bought seven bulls to average $10,857.

The Stocklive team also brought in bids across the day, highlighted by the Turvey family, Juandah Aggregation, Wandoan, Qld, purchasing seven bulls to average $17,286.

Mr Chappell thanked the successful bidders and underbidders on the day.

"Thank you very much to you all. We really appreciated your attendance. We achieved a far better outcome than we anticipated and we're really grateful for that. Thank you for your continued support."

The sale was conducted by Colin Say & Co.
