Have your say: what is an appropriate bull sale starting price in 2025?

A story in Queensland Country Lifehas sparked debate about starting prices at multi-vendor bull auctions.

While the National Braford Sale successfully lifted its baseline to $6000 as did the Brangus national, the Droughtmaster National sat firm at $5000, and the Rockhampton Brahman Week Sale remained at $4000.

Some argue that a $4000 upset allows bulk buyers to bid up, while other breeders believe it lowers the value that can be asked for quality bulls in the paddock.

Vendors say the comparison with other multi-vendor sales this year has sharpened the debate.

It begs the question, with the cost of production rising, how low is too low? What implications does the price set in sale rings have?

We want to hear from our readers on this one - both buyers and sellers.
