It has been 50 years since Cadell Border Leicester stud first held its ram sale, and it celebrated with seven rams sharing top price honours.

The Ariah Park stud received plenty of support from both loyal clients and first-time buyers with the sale, held on Friday, October 3, attracting 25 registered bidders.

A total of 150 out of 155 stud and flock rams offered were snapped up, resulting in a top price of $3000 and an average price of $1585.

In the stud draft, 20 sires were sold, with seven reaching the equal top price of $3000, and achieving an overall stud average of $2460.

Jonathan Schulz, Huonlea Border Leicester stud, Jindera, has been attending the Cadell sale for six years, and took home two of the top-priced rams.

Mr Schulz, who has run his stud since 2016, is heavily focused on early maturing sheep, breeding first-cross ewes himself.

"We've just bought 200 stud ewes from the Hovell stud, so I needed two rams to join them in February," he said.

He said lot 21 was a nice, upstanding ram with great size.

"He stood up well, while lot 23 had the best figures on the day, especially when it came to weaning weight," Mr Schulz said.

Wattle Farm claimed three of the top-priced rams, DJ and NK Woods took home two of the top-priced rams, and BM and ND Rollins bought one.

In the flock rams, 130 were sold, topping at $2800 and averaging $1453.

In this part of the catalogue, volume buyers came to the fore, with Gnadbro Pastoral Co buying 46 rams averaging $1200, Gadsby Agriculture buying 15 rams to a top of $2600, and the Wilcon family taking 13 rams home to a top of $2000.

Frying Pan Creek Pastoral bought 12 rams averaging $1200, and McGee Pastoral Co bought five rams averaging $2000.

Stud principals Barry and Rob Harper were thrilled with the support of loyal clients at the milestone sale.

"We are very pleased with the strong results and ongoing interest in the Cadell genetics," they said.

The sale was conducted by Elders and Nutrien Ag Solutions Wagga.
