Tassie buyers snap up Bonnie Doon Wagyu bulls

A high marbling, heavy yearling bull was the highlight of the fourth annual Bonnie Doon Wagyu sale at Morven, on September 23.
The sale topped at $11,500 and averaged $7045, with 11 of 15 bulls selling for a clearance rate of 73 per cent.
Stud principal Rob Wilson said there was strong demand from first-cross producers, mainly repeat buyers.
"All of these bulls are going into F1 (first-cross) productions," Mr Wilson said.
"They were looking for primarily low birthweight bulls, with average to high marble score and good milk, so good F1 (first-cross) bulls that have the maternal characteristics to produce a good calf.
"Most of the bulls went to Tasmania, to three different buyers, including the top bull, and a few sold locally."
The top price of $11,500 was paid for 18-month-old, 540-kilogram Bonnie Doon Wagyu WBDF24V0006, a son of Oasis Hirashigeteyasu S339 (ET) and high marbling dam MOYFS0169.
"He's a yearling bull with a good solid pedigree, and with good figures," Mr Wilson said.
"Size-wise, he's as big as a two-year-old, so he's got good growth, but with a reasonable birthweight.
"He's just a good all-rounder bull for F1 production."
Two bulls, Bonnie Doon Wagyu WBDF23U0146 and Bonnie Doon Wagyu WBDF23U0610, each sold for $10,000.
WBDF23U0146 was a 27-month-old bull by Bonnie Doon Wagyu WBDFS0145 from Bonnie Doon Wagyu WBDFS0275, and 23-month-old WBDF23U0610 was a son of Bonnie Doon Wagyu Beacon and Bonnie Doon Wagyu S0006.
The remaining bulls are available out of the paddock, along with the stud's heifers.
The sale was conducted by Ray White Rural Albury, with the online interface on AuctionsPlus.
