WA stud's decision to sell first bull at Droughtmaster National Sale pays off

He normally travels 4500 kilometres to Rockhampton to inspect bulls, but this year Ken Mutton of Fieldhouse Droughtmasters, Wickepin, Western Australia, enjoyed the auction from the vendor side.
Mr Mutton sold his single entry on the final day of the Droughtmaster National Sale, Fieldhouse Custom, for $50,000, to Darren and Helen Childs, AC Cattle Co, Theodore.
Mr Mutton said he was pleased to see his sire enter a reputable operation.
"I didn't know what to expect for my first time selling at the national sale, but I was pleased with the interest the sire received on sale day," Mr Mutton said.
Fieldhouse Custom, a homozygous polled IVF product, entered the sale weighing 900 kilograms at 26 months.
He was sired by Glenlands D Ritual, the top priced bull at the 2014 Glenlands sale, which Mr Mutton paid $40,000 for.

Glenlands D Ritual was chosen from the Fieldhouse battery of sires on his longevity in the fieldhouse herd, having completed eight joining seasons in the harsh Western Australian environment.
Fieldhouse sells 100 bulls at its sale at Jurien Bay each year, supplying mainly large stations in Western Australia.
In the past few years, several of the bulls have been purchased by Queensland studs.
