First Aussie sale bull of Canadian sire tops the Valley Creek Simmental sale

The first son to be offered by a Canadian bull has left the vendors surprised at the 13th Valley Creek Simmentals online sale, Friday, September 12, via AuctionsPlus.
The "dark horse" of the draft by the Canadian sire MFI Jeremiah 9022 has set the bar for stud, reaching a top of $40,000 with 14 of 18 bulls selling to an average of $9130, while the pick of the heifers reached $10,000 and one out of three semen packages sold to $700 per straw.
Valley Creek V070, by the Canadian sire, weighed 740 kilograms while recording the largest scrotal circumference in the catalogue of 46.5 centimetres at 18 months old.
The traditional Simmental bull out of one of the studs donor females in Valley Creek Covergirl N46, who was by Valley Creek Joker, also recorded the second largest eye muscle area in the draft with a scan of 127 centimetres square, with rib and P8 fat scans of seven millimetres and 11mm, respectively.
He also recorded the highest intramuscular fat scan of 6.9 per cent.
The young sire reflected his high IMF scan through to his marbling estimated progeny difference (EPD) value of +0.05, placing him in the top 10pc of the breed.
He also placed in the top 10pc for his stayability figure of +16.7, while being in the top 15pc for his maternal weaning weight figure of +72.2 and he placed in the top 3pc for his milk figure of +35.5.
Valley Creek stud co-principal Samantha Moeck said the bull had been a "dark horse" throughout the draft, who was very even with a placid temperament.
Other highlights throughout the sale was the pick of the 2024 heifers from the stud, which was secured by repeat purchasers Mick and Mary Parsons, Roslyn, for $10,000.
This lot included 13 heifers to choose from, including a full flush sister to the top-priced bull in VC Covergirl V055.
The top semen lot was purchased by Grylls Cattle Company, Tynong North, Vic, for $700 a straw.
The package consisting of five straws from the Canadian sire RF Caliber 014G, being the last straws to sell in the country from the now deceased bull.
Multiple bulls sold in the north with four bulls being knocked down to Peter Elms, Allied Beef, Toowoomba for and average of $6750.
Stud principals Samantha and Stuart Moeck said bulls were sold far and wide with many repeat buyers being active.
"We're pretty stoked," Mrs Moeck said.
"Six bulls went into Queensland, and then eight bulls locally in NSW, for us to sell 8 bulls locally, that's really cool for us.
"That's the first time we've ever done that, most of our bulls always go to Qld, so to do that is an achievement."
The sale was conducted by Nutrien Ag Solutions, with AuctionsPlus providing the online platform.
