NSW Charolais Classic sells all potential show steers at Tamworth sale

Coonamble's Myona Charolais enjoyed its results at the NSW Charolais Classic sale at Tamworth Regional Livestock Exchange on Saturday, August 30.
The multi-vendor sale sold 14 of 18 bulls to top at $14000 and averaged $7200. Two heifers averaged $5500, while all 10 show steers averaged $2180 and with a top price of $2700.
The top-priced bull was sold by Bev Hogland and Steve Martin's Myona Charolais, Coonamble, and went back to a western NSW commercial operation, Wooroona Station, Coonamble.
Mr Martin said the two stud heifers were bought by Winkel Park Charolais Stud, Merricks North, Victoria, while the steers were bought by Wellington High School, Chevallier College, Burradoo, Oakhill College, Castle Hill, and St Columba's College, Springwood.
We were pleased with the steer sale," Mr Martin said, "they averaged 650 cents a kilogram."
The sale topper, Myona Trust Me T31E, is a 32-month-old polled bull that is a proven stud sire with its first crop of calves already on the ground.
Sired by SVY Trust 6H, it was out of a Myona Kracka Jack K17 female. T31E was the senior and grand champion bull at the 2024 Royal Melbourne show and made the top five selection in the interbreed championship at the same show.
Mr Martin said the inaugural sale offered a draft of bulls that were, "as good as any I've seen, they were quality bulls".
He said the sale would continue to build the profile of the breed in NSW, with the aim to matching the demand of the breed in Queensland.
"Next year we'll be holding the sale in conjunction with the World Charolais Forum, which will be held in Brisbane in conjunction with the Royal Queensland Show," he said.
The Tamworth sale will be held after the forum.
The selling agents were McCulloch Agencies, Tamworth, with the online interface provided by StockLive.
