Volume buyer secures near half the draft of females at Tennysonvale sale

Females were in demand right from the first lot at the Baldry family's Tennysonvale annual sale May 30, held on-property Ivanhoe, near Illabo.
Bulls and females sold throughout the eastern seaboard to Queensland, Victoria and throughout NSW with all 42 females sold to a top of $8500 for an average of $4346, while 20 of the 27 bulls sold to a top of $12,000 for and average of $6383.
Interstate buyers displayed their presence throughout the catalogue with eight heading north to Queensland while Victoria purchasers secured four animals.
The top-priced bull, Tennysonvale Usavoury, was purchased by Alan Robinson, Tiaro, Qld, for $12,000.
The 23-month-old bull was a complete outcross for the stud, being sired by Woonallee Redemption and out of Hartfield Sour, going back to Jarravale Premier.
The young sire tipped the scales at 838 kilograms, with a eye muscle area of 124 centimetres squared, with P8 and rib fat scan of eight millimetres and 6mm, respectively, while also recording one of the highest intramuscular fat scans in the draft of 5.1 per cent.
He recorded a weaning weight estimated progeny difference (EPD) in the top 10pc with a value of +90.1, while ranking in the top 4pc for his yearling weight and carcase weight values of +133.4 and +37.8, respectively.
The Simmental bull also ranked in the top 5pc for docility with a figure of +15.7 and rib eye area with a value of +1.09, he also ranked in the top 3pc for marbling with a value of +0.18
Mr Robinson also purchased two females for and average of $4500.
In the females, Tennysonvale Umillie was sold for the top price of $8500 to a northern NSW buyer, Kem Cattle Co, Myall Creek.
The 22-month-old Yerwal Est Quality Kid daughter was homozygous polled, weighing 654kg and described in the catalogue as a feminine heifer that combines eye appeal and performance.
She ranked in the top 10pc for docility and yield grade with figures of +14.3 and -0.57, respectively.

Other highlights in the female draft was Tennysonvale Ulanie, who was purchased for $7500 by Silver Linings, Murgon, Qld.
The 22-month-old filly sired by one of the stud's most influential sires, Tennysonvale Kip, who died last year.
Tennysonvale Unee sold for $7000 to Les Mcbain, Drouin South, Vic.
Another 22-month-old heifer, she was described as one of the favourites on offer, having a successful previous track record in the show ring winning supreme exhibit at the Cootamundra Show in 2025.
Two bulls who had also been in the studs show team also sold to good demand, both reaching $10,000 and both being sired by Tennysonvale Kip.
The first being Tennysonvale Uggie, who was purchased by RD and DM Whiteman, Cobar.
He weighed 820kg with an EMA of 125cm sq, with a scrotal circumference of 41cm and P8 and rib scans of 7mm and 5mm.
His paternal brother Tennysonvale Unruffled who also sold for $10,000 was purchased by Russell Barley and Di Cox, Quartz Hill, Jindera.
The young sire had a successful show career this year, winning Grand champion bull at the Royal Canberra Show and then followed on to be awarded reserve senior champion bull at the 2025 Royal Sydney Easter Show just a month later.
Mr Barley and Ms Cox also secured 17 females throughout the sale for and average of $3632.
Mr Barley said he purchased a line of 15 females last year and has been pleased with their production since being joined to a Hereford sire, with the aim to turn the progeny off as weaners.
He said the operation joins 180 Hereford and Simmental cows each year.

Tennysonvale stud co-principal Carl Baldry said the family was pleased with the results of the sale.
