A full-clearance of Speriby North Bulls at Bolivia, via Tenterfield, topped at $27,000 to average $14,001 during determined bidding on Friday.

The draft of 73 sires sold to many repeat clients with new bidders amongst them.

Deepwater black Angus producer Terry Cunich, Wollundi, paid the top money for station-bred AJC U478, recording top one per cent of the breed for marbling with an Estimated Breeding Value of +7 while retaining top 10pc for 600 day growth at +146.

Mr Cunich said he was a loyal supporter of the renowned breeder Arthur Cox, returning every year for the express purpose of lifting marbling in progeny "without sacrificing growth".

The supplier of suitable calves to Rangers Valley's long-fed program praised the cow family that raised the Speriby North bulls.

Mr Cunich also purchased AJC U79, 720kg at 23 months, for $16,000 with similar 10pc 600 day weights and a top 5pc EBV marble score at +5.4.

Deepwater, just to the north of Bolivia and up against the high ridges that define the eastern fall, is experiencing a best of seasons with clover flowering on sale day and no frost yet recorded.

A significant percentage of Speriby North bull clients sell calves to Rangers Valley, a high-quality long-fed finishing program which prides itself on collaboration with producers, and breeders of suitable seedstock, with detailed carcase data shared across that network.

First time buyers the Forrest family, who operate Gidyea Brangus and Ultra Black stud at Augathella, Qld, north of Charleville, paid $25,000 for AJC U23 by Moogenilla Quinella Q33, son of GAR Failsafe.

At 740kg the sire presented with a stand-out top 1pc carcase weight EBV while showing average mature cow weight at +104. His selection indexes, including profitability, recorded in the top 5pc of the breed.

The family bought two more bulls for $14,000 each including station-bred AJC U873, 674kg at 21 months, with top 1pc IMF at +6.6.

New clients Greg and Jenelle Wright, Echo Grazing at Deepwater bought six sires to average $16,333 and top at $24,000 for the auctioneer's choice, described as "most complete", the station-bred AJCU1105, going back to Rennylea H708 on the sire side.

Repeat buyers Craig and Heather Thomas, Valeview trading at Glen Innes, paid $24,000 for another Rennylea grandson, the station-bred AJC U242 with his selection indexes in the top 5pc for the breed.

Proof of that concept was reflected in the Valeview's group carcase champion win in the last Bindaree Beef and Colinsay feedlot trial, with entries still open for the next one.

The sale was hosted by Colin Say and Co, Glen Innes, with AuctionsPlus handling the online traffic.
