A cattle tick vaccine that has been in the pipeline since 2005 is close to reaching commercial availability.

The University of Queensland (UQ) developed the vaccine, coming at a time when research has shown that the traditional method for combating the issue, aracicides (tick pesticides) applied by spray or the dip, may be losing their effectiveness as globally, ticks have developed resistance to all classes of aracicides except Isoxazoline.

World Angus Forum travellers got a taste for the historic New England on their way from Tamworth to Brisbane with overseas visitors mightily impressed by the Aussie way of doing things right.

Champions of the Angus Shoot-out, part of the 2025 Neogen World Angus Forum, were announced in front of an audience of 420 breeders and feeders at the Australian Equine and Livestock Events Centre on Friday night in Tamworth.

A total of 64 cattle teams of five animals each, or 320 head in total, competed in the 117 day trial at Teys' Jindalee feedlot at Springdale via Temora.

It has been 28 years since Australia last hosted a World Angus Forum and the memories of that trip are still vivid in Norman Garton's mind.

The American seedstock producer made the trip in 1997 and couldn't miss the chance to return to the international event, this time bringing his wife, Victoria, along too.
