Breeders group trophy returns to NSW after year across the Nullarbor

The Sydney Royal Breeders Group Trophy is back on NSW soil, with the Angus breed launching a fresh winning streak after Western Australia's triumph in 2024.
Under judge Ben Mayne, Texas Angus, Warialda, Shorthorns, Santa Gertrudis, Hereford, Charolais and Angus went head to head.
In the end, it was Pine Creek Angus, Woodstock, that claimed the top honours.
It included PC Royal Roll U295, the junior and grand champion bull; PC Miss Royal Roll T347, the best grand champion female and best exhibit; and PC Miss Royal Poll U030, the reserve senior champion female.
While the overall quality of the cattle was excellent, Mr Mayne said the winning team was very impressive.
"You can see the sheer weight and muscle [in the bull] right the way forward," he said.
"But what really got me was the two big, beautiful, long robust cows with softness of body and beautiful heads that walk well.
"You can tell the calves are going to grow and they've got the carcase quality, but they've also got that performance and at the end of the day, they're going to be profitable."
When assessing cattle, either commercial or studstock, Mr Mayne said he priorities balance.
"Balance comes not only with the actual breeding, it's between phenotype and genotype figures," he said.
"All the information we get is fantastic for improving quality, but you've got to have phenotype up on top because if they can't walk, they can't do anything.
"The cattle here today show plenty of quality right across the board as you can see the current performance and profitability, but they're also going to continue to grow. "
The top five teams included Four Ways Charolais, Little Plain, Yarrawonga Cattle Co, Wallumbilla, Qld, RolyPark Shorthorns, Lake Boga, Vic, and Tycolah Herefords, Cobbadah.
Eight teams were paraded before Mr Mayne including Limousin, Speckle Park and Simmental-Fleckvieh, who were the first teams to leave the ring.
