A first-time exhibitor at the Sydney Royal was left speechless after the family's Limousin heifer rose up through her classes to win the supreme junior interbreed heifer.

There were emotional cheers when Summit Missive U174, bred by Summit Livestock, Roslyn, and exhibited by the Chase family of Four Chases Limousins, Dromana, Vic, was awarded the coveted prize under judge Bryce Camm, Wonga Plains, Dalby, Qld.

Mr Camm was presented with 14 exhibits before pulling forward the Angus, Charolais, Limousin and Red Angus.

He praised all the finalists, but said Summit Missive, by RUNL Justified 364 and from Summit Missive P73, was an exceptional heifer.

"Regardless of what breed you might be from or what you're trying to do, there's a lot of characteristics in this heifer in terms of the amount of depth and meat that she's carrying across that body, and yet still really moderate and really well balanced," he said.

"For a European breed she's still displaying a lot of characteristics that would be suitable in commercial operations.

"It's not just how they look in the show ring, it's how they're going to stand up and walk in the paddock."

Jasmine Green, Summit Livestock, handled the heifer in the ring.

The Chase family bought the heifer at around eight months of age, and Jack, aged 11, had competed with her in local shows and taken her in the paraders at Sydney Royal.

He described the heifer as a real sweetheart.

His mother, Kate Chase, said they had competed locally and had good success, but had not even competed at Melbourne Royal before.

She said they came to Sydney "for a bit of fun" and were blown away by the win.

"I've got no words - it's a dream come true," she said.

"I knew she was a special heifer."

They had selected her based on her exceptional nature, she said, and going forward they plan to put her to the Limousin bull, Syes Easy Going 77E.
