Vital funds raised for Victor Chang at Sydney Royal charity auction

The Schute Bell Badgery Lumby charity steer continued to raise vital funds for the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute, with 2025 marking the auction's 27th year.
The steer raised $18,000 and was sold to Dave Kent, Beaumont Beef, Kangaroo Valley, during the auction at Sydney Royal on Friday.
The 456 kilogram Santa Gertrudis was highly commended during the hoof judging under the eye of Cye Travers, Tamworth.
He measured six millemetre on the rib and 7mm on the rump, along with an 89 square centimetres and an intramuscular fat of 3.8 per cent.
The steer had been prepared by Presbyterian Ladies College, Armidale, and was going to be processed by Western Sydney Meat Works free of charge before going to John Mauger at Maugers Meats, Bowral and Moss Vale to be cut up.
Buyer Mr Kent said he had been the underbidder for many years during the charity auction, however was finally successful this year.
Mr Kent said it was a "great cause" he was more than happy to support, with all the proceeds donated going towards the actual work of the institute.
He said the research aspect was particularly interesting for him.
Over the last 26 years the auction has raised more than $500,000 for the Victor Chang Cardiac Research Institute.
The steer was auctioned by Schute Bell Badgery Lumby, with Harrison Cummins, Goulburn, taking bids.
