Western NSW exhibitors Sixpence Park Murray Greys claimed the coveted Murray Grey best exhibit broad ribbon on Friday (April 11), after Carlinga Naiad S77 stole the spotlight at Sydney Royal.

Under judge Peter Falls, Malton Shorthorns, Finley, the three-year-old female progressed from the female over 30 months class to claim senior and grand champion female.

Exhibited by Steve and Natalie Martin, Sixpence Park Murray Greys, Coonamble, Carlinga Naiad S77 was sired by Kyeema Night Life and out of Carlinga Naiad J21.

Mr Falls said the cream rises to the top and he was impressed by the best exhibit.

"I think she's an outstanding female with such smoothness," he said.

"The more I look at her, the more I like her and it doesn't matter what breed she is.

"She has a beautiful colour and is a true Murray Grey."

Natalie Martin, Sixpence Park Murray Greys, Coonamble, said the win was incredible and unexpected.

"She won the interbreed female at the Coonabarabran show earlier this year, so it was such a surprise that she won," Mrs Martin said.

It marks the first time the Martins have claimed the coveted best exhibit, broad-ribbon.

"She is an easy-doing female, with great softness and thickness," Mr Martin said.

Ganado Undertaker rose to top honours in the bull ring, sashed senior and grand champion.

Exhibited by Ganado Greys, Leichardt, Vic, the 22-month-old bull came through the bull over 20 and not over 30 months class.

Sired by Maefair Rupert R33 and out of Ondiong Cassie 209TH, he weighed 876 kilograms and measured 14 millimetres rib and 18mm rump with an eye muscle area of 124 square centimetres.

Mr Falls said he was a really good all-round bull who could do a number of markets.

"I like this bull because he has the smoothness and fleshing through the top of the shoulder that is so complete and he has fat cover right down through his ribs," he said.

"It is so important in times when things get tough to have a little bit of cover on your cattle because it will stick with you.

"Down through the flank and hind quarter, he has that extra degree that we need to see."

Courtney Hazeldene, Ganado Greys, said the win was a huge thrill and very humbling.

"He comes from a really strong maternal line and from the dam's perspective she's bred a number of ribbon winners at the show scene herself," she said.

"Overall the quality of the Murray Grey section at Sydney Royal this year is the best I've seen in a long time, so getting a champion bull was a huge thrill.

"To have him come here as a nine month old last year and win his class to then bring him back 12 months later and for him to win senior bull class is an absolute dream."

The reserve senior champion bull was awarded to Maefair Urana U25, exhibited by Maefair Murray Greys and Angus, Marrar.

The 21-month-old bull, sired by Monterey Status Quo Q151 and out of Dehavalyn Darling S9, weighed764kg with rump and rib fat measurements of 14mm and 10mm respectively, and an EMA of 117sq cm.

Junior champion bull went to Dehavayln Universal, exhibited by Dehavayln Murray Grey, Singleton.

The 18-month-old bull, sired by Maefair Quirindi Q23 and out of Dehavalyn Caddie Angel L2, tipped the scales at 834kg and measured 13mm on the rump, 9mm on the rib and an EMA of 124sq cm.

Maefair Murray Greys and Angus, Marrar, also took home the junior reserve champion sash with Maefair Umbrella U32.
