Top price reached twice at Rennylea with bulls sold to five states

Bulls were sold as far north as Queensland and as far south as Tasmania at the Rennylea Angus autumn sale held on-property at Culcairn on Tuesday.
At the fall of the hammer 128 of 132 bulls on offer sold to a top price of $26,000, twice, and for an average of $12,718, to buyers from Qld, Victoria, NSW, South Australia and Tasmania.
The equal top-priced bull was Rennylea U574, 766 kilograms, which sold for $26,000 to Hopewood Pastoral Co, Coolac.
The 19-month-old bull, by Rennylea R1169 and out of Rennylea S842, ranked in the top one per cent for milk, carcase weight, and eye muscle area with figures of +30, +103 and +17.3, respectively.
He also ranked in the top 5pc for 600-day growth and retail beef yield, as well as top 10pc for 200- and 400- day growth.
Ruth Corrigan, Rennylea, said the bull was one her top picks for the sale with a lot of early growth with a moderate maturity pattern.
"A big EMA and carcase weight bull with pretty good marbling," she said.
"He's a very complete bull, good structure, good temperament, good skin, just a good all-around bull."
The other bull to reach the equal top of $26,000 was Rennylea U729, 776kg, which sold to Frank and Pip White, Tangley, Guyra.
The 19-month-old bull, sired by Rennylea R808 and out of Rennylea Q133, ranked in the top 1pc for gestation length with a figure of -10.9.
He also ranked in the top 5pc for milk, carcase weight and EMA with figures of +28, +93 and +13.8, respectively.
Mr White said he was a "soft, easy-doing bull with good carcase".
"He's structural sound and will be a good outcross for us," he said.
Mr White said they run between 2700 and 2800 breeders, mostly commercial with a small stud, with the bull to breed yearling bulls for them to sell as well as use in their commercial herd.
He said the marbling and carcase traits were important to them with their commercial progeny going to Whyalla.
Mr White said this was their first time buying from Rennylea but had some grandsons from Rennylea L519, which was at Booroomooka Angus, Bingara, and said they were easy doing cattle.
Volume buyers included Spinifex Pastoral, Swan Hill, Vic, who purchased 12 bulls to a top of $20,000 and for an average of $14,500.
Independent agent Kevin Graham, Brisbane, Qld, purchased 11 bulls for four northern clients in Prairie, Richmond, Injune and Charters Towers.
This included seven bulls for Sylvester Pastoral Co, Arcadia Station, Injune, Qld, to a top of $18,000 and for an average of $13,714.
Mr Graham also purchased the third top-priced bull, Rennylea U682, for $24,000 on behalf of AJM Pastoral, Burleigh Station, Richmond, Qld.
Mr Graham said his clients were taking advantage of the drier season in southern NSW to buy bulls, with most chasing "bulls that pack a punch" and "good, clean-coated bulls".
He said the season was patchy in Queensland but his clients were currently sitting comfortably, although another good rain before the end of the wet season would not go astray.
Ms Corrigan said the family was chuffed with the result.
"The season has been tough in the south so it was a really good result considering," she said.
The sale was conducted by Paull and Scollard Nutrien Ag Solutions with Nutrien Stud Stock's Andrew Wishart and Peter Godbolt sharing the rostrum.
