Highly consistent selection of bulls set for Highlands Droughtmaster sale

Another consistent offering of bulls has been catalogued for the 34th Highlands Droughtmaster Bull Sale to be held at the Clermont Saleyards from 10am on Friday, March 14.
In all, 78 well-produced bulls (46 registered and 32 herd bulls) have been selected by 12 repeat vendors for this year's Highlands sale.
Elders Stud Stock sale auctioneer, Anthony Ball, said the Highlands sale had built up a solid reputation over the years, and that the uniformly even drafts offered annually were the reason why.
"Some of the vendors returning this year have been with the sale since its inception. Buyers know what they can expect when they attend the sale," Mr Ball said.
"There are potential stud sires scattered through this year's catalogue. If you're looking for growthy, meaty bulls with great weight for age you'll find them here," he said.
"This sale has greatly supported the town of Clermont, and producers from the region have provided tremendous support for the sale in kind."
Outside of the area local to the sale venue, buyers frequently attend from North Queensland and down to the South Burnett.
This was evidenced at the 2024 sale where despite the season and bull market at the time, a strong result was achieved compared to some other sales held at the time.
At the fall of the hammer last year, 45 of the 61 bulls offered sold for a clearance rate of 74 per cent, a gross of $347,000, an average of $7711, and a top of $29,000.
As has been tradition for the Highlands sale, all vendors will donate $50 from each bull sold. This year the recipient of this donation will be the Royal Flying Doctor Service.
There will also be three buyer incentives in place for this year's sale. The volume buyer will receive 100 tags and applicators, sponsored by ZTags (Datamars), the buyer of the top-priced bull will receive four bottles of Dectomax V, sponsored by Zoetis, and a lucky bid card holder will win a canvas bag, sponsored K and A Canvases.
All bulls for the 2025 sale will be available for inspection from the Thursday afternoon before the sale, and sale day morning before selling starts. A meet and greet barbecue will be held on the Thursday night at the saleyards.
Those unable to attend this year's sale can watch and bid via the Stocklive online selling platform on which photos and videos of the bulls are available.
The catalogue is viewable on the Highlands Droughtmaster Bull Sale website. Hard copies can be posted by contacting Anthony Ball or your local Elders branch.
