A return stud buyer from NSW took home the top-priced bull at the Mandayen Limousin and Angus sale at the Eight Mile Sale Complex near Keith on Wednesday.

Brett and Mireille Turner, New Day Limousin, travelled over from Crookwell, NSW, for the sale and bought Mandayen Hector U47 for $24,000.

The homozgous polled black Limousin weighed in at 840 kilograms. It was sired by East Coast Hector 009H and out of Mandayen Special Cookie R54.

Mr Turner said there was plenty to like about Hector including its 'good sirey head' and cleanness through the shoulders.

"It's got a lot of muscle and performance," he said.

"We're breeding Limousins, so we need bulls that are going to produce muscle and carcase."

It was the third year in a row New Day Limousins have bought bulls from Mandayen, and they have also bought females in the past.

"I keep coming back because the cattle are very commercially orientated, very functional and have a lot of performance," Mr Turner said.

Overall, in the Limousin part of the sale 25 bulls were sold out of 26 offered, for an average of $8920.

Looking at the Angus section, there were 61 bulls sold out of 73 offered, for a top of $18,000 and average of $9786.

The top-priced Angus went to another return buyer McCarthy Livestock, with properties at Lucindale and Padthaway.

Anthony McCarthy said he liked the evenness of Mandayen Reebok U235.

"It's also got a heap of growth," he said.

Weighing in at 765kg, Reebok U235 was sired by Mandayen Reebok R442 and out of Mandayen Abigail S314.

All up, McCarthy Livestock bought six Angus bulls, averaging $11,333.

Swiss Australia Farm Holdings were the volume buyers of the sale, purchasing 19 Angus for their South East properties to a top of $12,000 and average of $8947.

Regular buyers Amherst Livestock, Willalooka bought five Angus to $10,000 and averaging $7000.

Another return Willalooka buyer, Rockallen Pastoral, purchased four Limousins to a top of $13,000, averaging $8750, and two Angus to a high of $12,000, averaging $9000.

Bidding from five states - Western Australia, Queensland, Victoria, NSW and SA - helped underpin the sale results.

Principal Damian Gommers said he was pleased with how the auction went.

"Season-wise, two weeks ago I really didn't know what to expect," he said.

The sale was conducted jointly by Elders and Spence Dix & Co, with Ross Milne and Jono Spence auctioneering respectively.

Mr Spence said the sale represented good value all the way through, while Mr Milne labelled it a "fair, even sale throughout".
