Droughtmaster bull tops $2M February All Breeds Sale

Droughtmaster bulls topped the second and final day of the annual February All Breeds Sale at CQLX, Gracemere, on Tuesday, February 11.
In a day of very mixed fortunes, males and females from 23 purebreds and composite breeds were represented with 158 males averaging $6927 and a trio of females averaging $3833 on the way to clearing 66 per cent of the market.
In all, 290 bulls sold over two days clearing 65 per cent of the catalogue to set an average $6407 and 37 heifers averaged $4095 in a 65 per cent clearance at auction culminating in a $2.M gross and a clearance rate of 65 per cent across the board.
Last year over the two days the sale saw 321 bulls sold, clearing 69 per cent of the catalogue to set an average $6424.
Fifty-two heifers averaged $4750 in a 76 per cent clearance at auction culminating in a $2.3M gross and a clearance rate of 70 per cent across the board.
Sale topper on the final day was the Droughtmaster bull, Hamadra Nedrick.
Offered by Drew McKenzie, Hamadra stud, Bluff the 25-month-old weighed 794 kilograms, posting a scan of 14mm and 10mm, respectively, for P8 and rib fat and 142 square centimetres for eye muscle area.
Sired by Calioran Robbie and from a Minlacowie Salvador daughter the bull sold via phone to Dave and Colleen Smith, Vale View stud, Manumbar.
He was one of 37 Droughtmaster bulls that sold for a 54 per cent clearance and $6986 average.
In the Brangus, 52 bulls averaged $7356 and had a 78pc clearance, 17 Angus bulls averaged $6353 (94 per cent clearance), one Droughtmaster/Angus composite bull sold for $7000 (100pc clearance), one Stabilizer bull sold to average $5000 (33pc clearance), two Simangus bulls averaged $12,000 (100pc clearance), one Senegus bull made $5000 (100pc clearance), 31 Simmental bulls averaged $6806 (82pc clearance), I Fleckvieh bull $6000 (100pc clearance), eight Simbrah bulls averaged $6500 (80pc clearance), one Gelbvieh bull made $5000 (20pc clearance), one Hereford bull sold for $5000 (100pc clearance), one Shorthorn bull made $5000 (50pc clearance), two Romagnola bulls averaged $5000 (67pc clearance) and three Droughtmaster females averaged $3833 (100pc clearance).
