Mid North studs open gates for Stock Journal Beef Week day 1

Stock Journal Beef Week 2025 Day 1

Mid North bull studs greeted visitors and exhibitors to day one of Stock Journal Beef Week 2025 on Saturday.

The first of four days of the event had two studs open their gates to visitors to check out their finest bulls and females.

Steve and Katrina Sanders and family, Ballyvaughan Murray Greys, Boconnoc Park (west of Clare), generally sell 12 to 15 bulls a year and had a display of their rising two-year-old Murray Grey bulls, as well as rising two-year-old pregnancy tested in calf heifers.

Ballyvaughan had already made a couple of bull sales in the lead up to their open day and will offer the rest by private treaty.

The stud will also take a bull and mated heifer to the new Silver Lining Elite Murray Grey sale, to be held at Wagga Wagga, NSW, on April 30.

The stud had a selection of Angus, apricot and black Limousin and Limflex bulls on display ahead of their sale on Thursday, February 13.

The stud will offer 70 bulls from 11am that day, with Angus bulls by "breed legends" such as Varilek Geddes, Landfall New Ground, Texas Powerplay and Sterling Pacific.

Principal Matt Vogt said the stud had been continuing its focus on fertility, calving ease, growth, carcase quality, feed efficiency, feet and legs, and docility.
