Glenburnie continue on from Armidale success at annual ram sale

Glenburnie Merino has continued on from their success at the Armidale Housed Ram Show & Sale

The Walcha-based stud completed its annual sale just 48 hours after being crowned the supreme exhibit from the prestigious event.

Operated by father and son Paul and Bateson Pittman, the New England stud sire edged out the Merryville Merinos, Boorowa, champion fine wool ram, selected by two Tasmanian judges Anna Cotton and Bruce Dunbabin in a very close contest.

The stud's annual sale at the Walcha Showgrounds on Thursday resulted in 23 of 35 rams selling to a $1343 average and $2500 top.

More than 10 successful buyers purchased at least one ram from the sale, with a mixture of both repeat and new buyers from across the region.

The $2500 top polled ram was the sole purchase for repeat buyer Graham Marchant, Walcha.

At least five different buyers threw their hand up to bid on the top-priced ram, with Mr Marchant, the successful buyer of the sought-after ram.

Repeat buyer Philip Tongue, Llanillo Ag Company, Nundle, rounded out his draft with two rams for an $1800 average after several successful purchases from Shalimar Park Merino stud the week before.

"This draft of sale rams was faced with over 240 millimetres of rain throughout January and didn't miss a beat." stud principal Paul Pittman said.

"We ran them through the pens after that, and there was no water blemish in the wool and had taken it very well."

The sale was conducted by AWN with John Croake the auctioneer on the day.
