Household consumption generates the largest share of GRP ($6.608 billion), ahead of government consumption ($2.418 billion) and private gross fixed capital expenditure ($1.946 billion).
As a result, the region’s unemployment rate sat at just 3.6 per cent in the March quarter of 2023, down from a recent high of 5.3 per cent in the same quarter of 2021.

The value of building approvals, meanwhile, has skyrocketed from $380.768 million in 2016-17 to $774.551 million in 2020-21. Strong growth has been experienced in both residential (+104.5 per cent to $470.795 million) and non-residential (+ 101.7 per cent to $303.756 million).
