Quality cutting wool paid off at the 2026 Rocklyn Merino stud annual ram sale, held on-property at Greenethorpe on Thursday, September 24. Of the 100 Poll Merinos offered, 83 cleared for an average of $2590, with bidding reaching $6750. The result lifted on the previous year, when 72 lots sold for an average of $2253, and a good percentage of the remaining lots sold straight after the auction.

The top-priced ram was lot 4, 250098, sold to long-time buyers TH Cooper & Co, Myall Park, Caragabal. The 14-month-old triplet, a son of CP221304, measured 19.4 micron with a standard deviation of 3.1, a coefficient of variation of 16.1 and a comfort factor of 99.5 per cent. It ranked in the top 20 per cent of Australian Sheep Breeding Values for post-weaning weight, yearling weaning weight, weaning rate, the Wool Production Index and the Sustainable Merino Index. That buyer also took 13 rams on the day at a $3492 average.

The second-top ram, lot 70, 250065, made $6600 to new clients Hill Family Pastoral, Greenshades, Stockinbingal, which bought six rams at a $4233 average. Lot 2, 250061, followed at $6500 to Warralong Pastoral Co, Coolac, which secured six rams at a $4317 average.

Buyer interest was directed more towards rams with better fleece weight data following the upturn in the wool market. Kevin Miller, Whitty, Lennon and Co and AWN conducted the sale.
