Ray White Barcaldine Bull Sale tops $22,000 for a Charolais sire

Summary

Commercial buyers drove the fourth annual Ray White Barcaldine Bull Sale, held on Friday, September 25 at the Barcaldine saleyard, where 80 of the 93 bulls offered sold under the hammer for an 86 per cent clearance. That was down from 92 per cent the previous year, across a catalogue 42 bulls smaller, which agents described as the right number for the market.

Charolais vendors sold 36 head to gross $308,000 at an average of $8555 and a top of $22,000. Simmental vendors sold 21 head to gross $214,000 at a higher average of $10,190 and a top of $16,000. Black Simmental, red Simmental, Simbrah and red Simbrah bulls averaged between $6285.71 and $11,000 a head.

The top-priced bull was TEX W558E, a Charolais offered by Belbourie Park, selling at $22,000 to Veejay Downs Charolais, Inga Downs, Dingo. The 20-month-old polled bull was sired by Rangan Tex T6 and out of Paringa Legend N366, weighing 744 kilograms with an eye muscle area of 133 square centimetres, a scrotal circumference of 40 centimetres and an intramuscular fat reading of 4.7 per cent. Belbourie Park sold 25 bulls overall to average $8000.

The second-highest-priced bull, lot 91, shared a sire with the top bull and sold at $19,000 to Clare Charolais, Theodore.
