Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What did the Brurob ram sale top at?

The sale topped at $23,500 for lot 2, a Poll Dorset ram. The stud sold 147 of the 175 rams offered for an average of $1854. The top price, average and clearance rate were all significantly higher than 2025.

Who bought the top-priced ram?

Rene stud, Culcairn, New South Wales, secured him. The buyers could not attend as they were conducting their own ram sale the same day, but had inspected the ram the week before. He had placed first in the Lambplan class at the Australasian Dorset Show in September.

Why did the buyers target that ram?

They believed he had the attributes to make a positive impact on the Poll Dorset breed while complementing the direction of their own program. They described him as sharp through the shoulder with exceptional length, depth of muscle, structure and true Poll Dorset breed character, backed by figures matching the physical package.

How will the top-priced ram be used?

The buyers intend him to complement a ram bought from Springwaters stud three years ago for $26,000. They will retain all semen rights to the $23,500 purchase and will not offer semen for sale, using the ram exclusively within their own breeding program.

What did the top White Suffolk ram make?

Lot 12 sold for $10,000 to Mullinger Park, Kybybolite, South Australia. Sired by a Yonga Downs ram from Western Australia, he was recently awarded reserve interbreed ram at the Melbourne Royal Show. The same buyer also paid $10,000 for lot 8, a Poll Dorset ram.

What was that buyer looking for?

The buyer had followed both rams from the Australian Sheep and Wool Show in July through the Australasian Dorset Championships and the Elite Show and Sale, and came intending to secure them. Figures were not the primary consideration, but physical correctness was, and both rams were judged very correct. Mullinger Park runs about 900 Poll Dorset ewes, 400 White Suffolk ewes and 150 Suffolk ewes.

Who were the volume buyers?

Westblades Ag, Redesdale, purchased 12 White Suffolk rams at a $1333 average. A Kilmore buyer secured nine Poll Dorset rams at a $1411 average. The sale attracted buyers from across the country, with rams sold as far afield as Western Australia.

What drove the improved result?

The stud credited a strong season for buyer confidence, along with a successful show campaign across five major events. Interest from other studs buying to invest in their own breeding programs was a feature. Brurob also collected semen from a number of rams in the sale for use within the stud, and the sale was conducted by Elders Bendigo.
