About Weetalabah Cattle Services Herefords

Weetalabah Hereford Stud was founded in 1988 by Julie and named after Julie’ s family property “Weetalabah Station” at Coolah NSW.

Julie married Aderian Nixon of “Dulacca Station” Dulacca in 1999. Aderian is the grandson of Arch Nixon of the famous Devon Court Hereford stud. They have 2 beautiful children, Aleacea born in 2000 and Lyall in 2002.

Julie & Aderian have both won the Australian Hereford Youth Club overseas trip. Julie's trip was in 1993 to the USA and Aderian's was in 1998 to Canada. Whilst on their trips, Julie and Aderian gained an enormous amount of industry knowledge both on a national and international scale.

The hereford females originated from Courallie, Gorian, The Rock, and Moorlands and more recently from the Smithston, Courallie and Emu Holes Dispersals.

Whilst also visiting Canada in 1993, Julie purchased Twin-L Standard 65U ('Streak') after seeing the mark he left on every female at Randy & Sandra Radau’s Coulee Crest Farms. He left impressions of thickness with plenty of meat but retaining femininity with near perfect udders every time. He is a trait leader in Australia for Milk at +23 and EMA of +2.9 and an IMF of +0.3. All the original bloodlines were crossed with Streak to make the herd what it is today.

Bulls have been sourced using some of the best AI sires around as well as some purchased bulls. Bundarra Yang from Jim & Rita Reid at Dalby was purchased for the top price of $18,000 at the 2005 Southern Cross bull sale. Yang has left some wonderful full bodied, very thick, structurally correct, good milking females. Unfortunately Yang injured himself after his first season but is still being used via AI. This led to the purchase of Foxforth Axe for the top price of $7,500 at the 2008 Glen Innes Bull Sale. Axe is leaving some wonderful dark coated, long calves with a little extra growth and near perfect udders on the females. Weetalabah are also using some home bred sires that are working with huge success. At Wodonga 2013 Bolong Gonski was purchased from Peter Croker, he is a deep thick bull that will mop up following AI program. AI sires will be C L1 Domino 9121W, Karoonda Newman, Streak and Yang.

Although Polled genetics have been introduced to the herd the Horned cattle will remain pure. All horned bulls to be sold by Weetalabah will never have any Polled genetics unless clearly stated!

In 2005 poll Hereford genetics were introduced, with the purchase of Polled females from Debarry and Norolle, plus using Polled AI bulls over some of the best Horned Hereford cows. In 2009 the first Polled bull Bahreenah Calypso was purchased at the Glen Innes Bull sale. At the 2012 Dubbo National Poll Hereford Bull Sale we purchased 2 bulls in partnership with other breeders, Llandillo Uluru for $16,000 and Tycolah Jester for $7,000. Bulls for sale will be either Polled or scurred or clearly stated that they have polled genetics.
