About Merawah Poll Herefords
The Merawah Poll Hereford stud is one of the oldest Hereford studs in Australia. Established by J.H.Doyle in 1936, the herd has been under the continual management of the one family for over 80 years. The herd is situated near Boggabilla in Northern New South Wales on the banks of the Mcintyre river. Now managed by Andrew and Carolyn Mackay and their children, Serena and Gus, Merawah is a family operation committed to breeding productive, functional poll hereford cattle that can add measured value to your beef operation.
The Merawah program is firmly based on breeding seedstock that will return the most $/hectare return for our customers. The cow herd is constantly monitored to ensure that only productive, functional cows remain in the stud. A top quality cow herd can only be achieved if unproductive cows are culled and removed from the herd. We treat our registered cows the same as our commercial herd to ensure that the cream rises to the top naturally and multiply the best through a large AI and ET program backed up by our own proven herd sires in the paddock.
Bull calves are subject to the same stringent selection process - bulls are evaluated and assessed at birth, weaning and again at 16 months of age - only bulls that have passed all these checks will be considered for our annual bull sale. Breedplan data and ultrasound scan records are an integral part of the selection process for both bulls and females. Over 5000 bulls have left Merawah to work in herds throughout Australia.
