About K O Angus

The Farm

K.O. Angus Stud in Kangaloon consists of 1000 acres of undulating country ranging from 725 to 750 metres altitude. Our average rainfall is 900mm. Our winters are severe with about 90 days of frost. Pasture growth is very limited from Mid April until the end of August.

I am constantly informed by clients that our cattle “explode with growth” when they leave K.O. Angus. I believe this is because of the high rainfall here and the consequent high water content in our grasses. People seldom realise that we have little or no pasture growth for five months of the year and that our cattle are NOT pampered and will generally do better when they leave us.

Our cattle are supplementary fed hay and silage for about five months of the year, throughout the winter period.

We have held fifteen successful annual on-property sales since 1997.

The reasons you should be interested in K.O. cattle are that they are:

Larger or framier than average

Powerful and thick

Heavier than average on a weight for age basis (off grass).

Fertile

We cull harder at K.O. than most breeders.

We believe that:

The smaller an animal’s frame the easier it is for that animal to appear thick.

The larger an animal’s frame the harder it is for the animal to appear thick.

Most breeders are offering for sale smaller framed animals with differing degrees of thickness.

At K.O. we are “not” taking the easy route (that is, by breeding shorter thick appearing bulls) — at K.O. we are selectively breeding larger framed but also thick cattle. Whilst this is hard to do, we believe we are succeeding.

Come and have a look at our cattle and make up your own mind. They are worth a look.
