About Glenlands Droughtmasters
Glenlands Stud History and Philosophy
Founding: The Glenlands Stud was founded in 1968 on foundation cattle sourced from the Alanray, Charaboon, Mungalla, and Kelso Studs.
Core Focus: The stud is committed to the Droughtmaster breed, prioritizing cattle with structural soundness, breed type, fleshing, and doing ability.
Breeding Program:
A strict culling program is enforced, with temperament and fertility being major factors.
The stud is run as a commercially orientated herd, with the owners maintaining constant contact with clientele to monitor cattle profitability and performance.
A key policy is the "Purity / Genetic Strength" approach, emphasizing pedigrees to ensure "progeny predictability" for clients.
The stud's breeding philosophy includes a Reproductive Matrix (RM), which has been maintained for over four decades and combines a Puberty Index (P), Calving Index (C), and Lifetime Calves Produced (L).
Stud cows are currently purpose-mated into 52 single sire herds and must calve every year and wean a calf of acceptable quality and weight, or they are culled.
