About Gipsy Plains Brahmans
Situated 60km north of Cloncurry, Gipsy Plains Brahmans is owned and operated by the Curley family, established in 1993 by Robert and Jacqueline Curley and continued by Clayton & Erin Curley with their children.
The stud, produces high quality red and grey Brahmans, focused on temperament, weight for age and structural integrity with an emphasis on sound uddered, fertile females. With the climatic knowledge gained with 60 years plus of breeding cattle in the top end of Australia, we have utmost confidence in the survivability of the brahman breed and believe these fundamentals are pivotal for the success and future of the beef industry.
Our 6000 plus stud herd is recorded with the Australian Brahman Breeders Association, where the selection of recorded traits and genomic EBVs is our priority over generational pedigrees. This gives clients surety in selecting the most suitable bulls and replacement females for their operations. We continually source outstanding sires and females to ensure the genetic strength and genomic linkages through the herd.
The prominent push for polled cattle in today’s market, continues to drive our polled breeding programme which began in 1995. We have been able to utilise genetics which provide this option for clients, without sacrificing growth rates and structural soundness.
Repro technology has enabled us to fast track our poll percentages using elite sires that compliment our breeding objectives.
Our sire battery over the years is backed with bulls that have cemented their place not just within our own breeding herd, but also that of the Brahman breed. Some of our noteworthy red sires producing exceptional sale ring results included
Fairy Springs Duracell 3606 (PS) in RBWS 2023 a son was second top price bull for $100,000.
Y3K Billionaire 9002 (PP) at Big Country Sale 2026, 8 sons averaged $27,313.50 at RBWS 2023, a son was the highest selling bull at $120,000
Tarramba Topshelf 4174 (ET) (PP) RBWS 2025 a son was the highest selling red bull at $90,000 Great Eastern Heifer Sale a daughter topped at $50,000
Our latest purchase Elm-Roc Tycoon 34/24 (PP) is an outstanding half-brother to Elmo Picasso 1023/7.
In 2020, we secured a substantial number of grey cows that have the longest recorded breedplan data in the Australian Brahman database to add to our powerful grey herd. With this valuable information, we are pursuing the journey of breeding cattle that show strength and merit in phenotype to mirror that data.
Some recent grey sires producing exceptional results are FBC T Carlos 142 (IVF) (PS), Bungoona Wilston 4477/0 (PS) and Doonside Diablo 2552 (AI) (PP).
We have Semen for sale in many of our sires.
In 2026, we will have approximately 500 red and grey bulls available. Semen tested, ABBA recorded, Genomic EBV tested, Vaccinated for Vibrio, Blood and Botulism.
A selection of quality replacement ABBA recorded females will also be available.
